Me thinks God washed his hands of all this crap. A few passages come to mind of the old testament where he instructed the demise of individuals... Their families... And even their live stock...

Yep, God was silent for long periods of time, while the people slid downhill to a point where they turned to God for relief.

I disagree with your premise. Here are some teachings for all of us at FR: I think that God is aware of, and allows all of these things for His ultimate purposes. He chooses ALL of the leaders and allows them to make the choices that will determine other courses that we sheeple make. Ultimately, we will all have to defend our choices that we made in life, as painful as some of them were. I am reminded by the Christian verse from Romans 13:1 “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” Why does God let bad rulers stay in power? Saul’s poor leadership was allowed by God because it led to the Kingship of David. He also was appointed King to gather the people. The people wanted a leader like the Gentile Nations, so he gave them one. They gave them one that looked like a King and acted like a King, and when they cried out against Saul, he brought them David. But Saul was a righteous man, chosen by God, but his mission changed. From “God Questions?”: “The name “Saul,” from the Hebrew word pronounced shaw-ool, means “asked.” Saul was the son of Kish from the tribe of Benjamin. Saul came from a wealthy family (1 Samuel 9:1) and was tall, dark and handsome in appearance. Scripture states that “there was not a man among the sons of Israel more handsome than he, being taller than any of the people from his shoulder and upward” (1 Samuel 9:2). He was God’s chosen one to lead the scattered nation of Israel, a collection of tribes that did not have a central leader other than God and no formal government. In times of trouble, leaders would arise but never consolidated the power of the twelve tribes into one nation.”
