A 13-year-old boy in Washington, DC, was shot and killed by a homeowner who claimed he was breaking into cars. The community is demanding the shooter's identity be revealed.
Karon Blake was fatally shot with a legally registered firearm on Quincy Street around 4am on January 7 by an unidentified homeowner who heard noises outside of his home and thought someone was 'tampering with a vehicle,' DC Police reported.
The teenager and the man reportedly got into a confrontation before the shooting occurred, and after shooting him, the homeowner did perform CPR.
Blake, who was found by police with multiple gunshot wounds and is believed to have been unarmed, was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Two other youths are suspected of fleeing the scene after the homeowner approached them.
Police also said they found a stolen car in the area and believed the Brookland Middle Schooler had used it, according to NBC Washington.
Now, the local community is demanding the homeowner's identity be released and that he be charged with murder.
DC Police have said they are talking to the US Attorney's Office to decide if charges should be fired. Identities are typically not released until charges are filed, but the community members are demanding a name now.
'Vigilante behavior is not the way to go about it,' Frankie Seabron, a member of the DC Safety Squad - an activist group - said. 'We really should value people more than we value property.'

They better just get used to it because this is what they’ve all been begging for. Do they really think people are just going to get used to being victimized and never fight back? No, they won’t ever accept being victims and they WILL fight back. The filth in our streets, including the criminals will eventually be cleaned up one way or another.
Sorry that the boy was shot and killed. Really. But think of all the other dysfunctional effluvium from the wounded gaps of human garbage will learn from his exploits and behave and learn how to conduct themselves in a civil society.
Getting over yourself virtue signaler.
That’s not just “one” of the services the police are called on to perform. It’s really the ONLY service the police should provide in a free, civilized society.
In this country, the role of a law enforcement officer is to protect accused criminals from armed, law-abiding citizens -- by taking those criminals into protective custody where they await trial through a legal process.
If he had any little feral buddies, which he likely did, they might now be too scared to repeat his mistake. His death should send a shock into their little feral brains, if they’re at all human.
Let me guess, an Amish teen?
“Death to car thieves.”
We used to hang horse thieves in America. Why not car thieves?
The opinions of an activist group member can and should be ignored.
his pic is on the link and they’ve made him look “oh so innocent”
Depending on the circumstances, you betcha.
Stealing something that substantial in the presence of the owner is in itself a violent act. It's in effect daring him to "do something about it," with the implication that he won't dare, for fear of violence from the criminal.
When you add to it the open, verbal and physical defiance--and bear in mind, this is the middle of the night, and it's a gang that has been defying him. That means the owner has to assume they could do him harm or kill him. And the kid is still there, challenging him and refusing to go away.
I'd say, when you play "games" like that, you're obviously not just a criminal, you're a psycho, and there's no telling what you'll do. In that situation, I'd say be safe and eliminate the threat. Sorry, it sucks to be a feral criminal, no matter what your age.
It is pretty obvious from that statement that the homeowner did not shoot the perp because he was trying to steal a car or steal from a car which means he did not shoot the perp over property.
In the old days there were groups formed to go after horse thieves.
The had little use for trials for those that were caught.
“The community is demanding the shooter’s identity be revealed.”
“’We really should value people more than we value property.’
“If people were as valuable as he says, where are his parents? Where are his values? Who has let him pursue this behavior? If you don’t demand accountability of the criminals, they will continue to pursue this lucrative trade until people die.”
“The community” mentioned in the article is likely the parents in your questions.
The dysfunction in DC isn’t that the 13 year old was breaking into a car at 4:00 AM, the dysfunction is that someone shot him. Now the black vigilantes want to know who did it.
Consider if the home owner simply detained the three perps until law enforcement arrived. The three punks would have been back on the street in days if not hours. For kids of this age committing felonies there are no real consequences. Perhaps what is needed is a juvie prison complete with locked cells, no TV and mandatory schooling. Failing grades means more time in lock up. Maybe if those punks were looking at years in juvie prison there might be some deterren.
Local community. Bullshit. Idk what that even means.
No way......
from the article: “We really should value people more than we value property.”
Ayn Rand was a brilliant writer on this topic.
She argued that property was the result of labor which was the time and effort spent by people.
Theft of property is stealing the value of other people’s lives.
“gentrified”
The liberal types that have gentrified it think that the criminals who live nearby wouldn’t dare bother them....
lol.
