The NFL hosted its season finale on Sunday. It was an eventful evening with the Buffalo Bills beating out the New England Patriots to earn the #2 seed. However, the matchup between the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars featured something special before the game even started.
Most all sporting events in this country feature a moment to play the national anthem just before the game to honor our country and the values we stand for (assuming the NFL players aren’t kneeling the whole time). The Jaguars featured a unique rendition of the national anthem performed on electric guitar by none other than a Florida man sporting an epic mullet. See the video below.
VIDEO AT LINK...........
I don’t think this performance could’ve been more patriotic. The entire stadium is adorned with American flags on the jumbotron, on the field, and even the performer’s guitar which had the flag painted on it.
He absolutely shredded his rendition, leading some to call it the greatest anthem performance in history. When thinking about national anthem covers on electric guitar, perhaps the quintessential example that comes to mind is Jimmi Hendrix playing it at Woodstock in 1969. However, it is said that Hendrix played the anthem as a protest to the war in Vietnam, in a very unpatriotic fashion. Instead of playing the anthem to cater to a bunch anti-war hippies on acid at Woodstock, our man in the video was playing it to honor our country.
The guitarist in the video is named Paul Wane who is a local Jacksonville resident. He plays in band called “Duval County Line”. Wane also has been operating a nonprofit foundation called “Guitars for Kids” which has supplied nearly 300 instruments to children over the past several years.
It's a dishonor to play the National Anthem at an NFL game.
Yep...the guy’s got nothing on Jimi.
I thought he looked familiar.
“Hendrix was a patriot who loved America, served in the military (although it was determined that that was not a suitable occupation for him), and expressed his love in that song.”
Bears repeating. Hendrix did serve, and may or may not have supported war in Vietnam, but his rock version is exquisite exactly because it’s patriotic and yet distinctive. Hendrix didn’t play it as in a marching band, yet it still stands as a great version of our National Anthem.
Doubly correct, sir.
It’s just long hair on a rocking guitarist who is playing with love of America on his guitar.
Dude. Rocked proud.
Which is to say, "Ellis" is an ignorant azzhole when it comes to patriotism, music, history, and American culture.
I’ve got socks older than he/she/it is..................
It’s almost a requirement.............
Yep, me too. Not sure about underwear but it's likely. :-)
Agree
I’m sorry, the National Anthem sounds perfect as it was originally written. Honor our heritage, imo.
I still had the sound turned down and his hair was so horrendous I had to look away
It was pathetic he needs to let go
You know the tune was an old tavern drinking song of that era?..................

The playing was superb.....................
“ Mullet? More like a receding hair line with “regular” long hair.”
Yes - he’s still hanging on to 20 years ago when he *used* to have hair. It’s way over now looks like a goofball I knew I wasn’t the only one that noticed. I still had the sound down which made it worse. I normally ignore all the pregame hype until they actually play the silly game
Pretty awful. Not that he can’t play guitar... but that was not in any way a respectful rendition of the Start Spangled Banner. Indeed - it falls in the same category as some of the wild-run, improve vocal stylings by some performers that also remove the simplicity and honor the National Anthem deserves.
Foot - even the infamous Jimmy Hendrix version is more respectful than this.
How is it patriotic to so stylized it that it becomes nearly unrecognizable other than an occasional familiar interval?
Roseanne Barr was unavailable......................
The homo-fannut version by Pentatonix for the Georga TCU game was FAR FAR more patriotic and respectful than this distorted abomination.
That would definitely have been in the same class...but a bit harder on the ears.
