Do you mean that you do want Windows 11?

Huh? Do you mean that Windows 11 is better than 10? Or better than 7?
In reliability and stability, unequivocally.

I just switched my entertainment computer loaded up with Win 10 that does not have a processor that can be upgraded. MicroSoft already deleted and WIPED my Win 7 Pro hard drive without my permission, before loading Win 8 home. When a storm took it out last week, I replaced it with UbuntU mini-computer that attaches behind the big screen.

If you are using an older Windows machine, and are contimplating an upgrade, the first question I alway ask is “what are you going to use it for?”
For some, it’s gaming. This is going to demand higher end everything. Fast drives, fast processor, fast graphics, fast memory. $$$
If you primarily shoot off email, surf the net, watch youtube and other social media - odds are that a current Unix or Linux install will liklely meet your needs, but make your old clunker much faster, and more secure.
If you run specialty programs, such as Quicken, TurboTax, and other business suite stuff; then a mid-range current laptop or desktop at Costco is probably what you want.
So much depends on what YOU will use it for. It’s like asking what car or truck you should buy - the answer depends on your purpose, intent and desires; as well as how much you have to spend.

I agree 10 and 11 are solid. 8 was an awful interface that I skipped.

My son knows quite a bit about computers. He was telling me I needed a newer computer to run it. One of the problems with Win10 and Win11 is the background processes consume a lot of RAM [working memory].
I loaded Win11 on a brand-new box back in August, and I just got done thumping a single process that always threatened to go wild in the streets when I wasn't looking.
Took me 3 months to figure IF I could get rid of it, and then HOW to get rid of it.

The Windows 7 interface was always there in 8, but I am really just speaking in stability and reliability.

I find working with old photos and getting old software to work VERY frustrating..I switched to ImageGlass and got rid of the native Win11 Photo app.
The native app was a POS.

Do like I have done for the last 30 years or so, keep everything updated and avoid the goofballs with all of their nutty ideas, paranoias, and conspiracy theories about why you should avoid updating your operating system.
I am a go-to guy to help friends with their computers and use Teamviewer for a number of people, and the ones always running into problems are the ones who avoid just staying with the newest and updated systems and software because of all the trash they hear from the nutters.

Have you been having any issues with AppXSvc, the process that fires up when you look sideways at the Start menu?
Mine started acting up several months ago - it was winding up in RAM and flashing a goofy fake keyboard icon on the screen when it was doing it.
I finally was able to neutralize it last month.

No, but we did see problems in 2021 in beta with SearchProtocolHost.exe causing problems on the start menu. No issues since early 2022 though.
To: TexasGunLover
I've disabled SearchHost.exe, because it sucks up 100Mb of RAM for no reason, every minute my box is running.
I think SearchProtocolHost.exe is a related process, so that's disabled on my machine, also.

Both are required for the start menu to work properly. Disabling them slows the menu down significantly. They're not optional services in Windows.
100mb of ram is nothing. Average low end PC's have 16GB and most midlevel to high end run 64gb. 100mb of ram is nothing.

Before major installs, consider disk imaging/cloning/back-ups.
I have used Macrium Reflect — free for home use — version, but they discontinuing support of it.
I recently found a similar program — Hasleo Backup — which is also free for home use.

Ask the original poster how much RAM they have. I'd be surprised if they have more than 6Gb. :)
But I agree about your low end and high end assessment.
