The following particulars of the fight at Vicksburgh have been received:
VICKSBURGH, Friday, Jan. 2, 1863.
To the Hon. James A. Seddon, Secretary of War:
The enemy, finding all his efforts unavailing to make any inroad upon our position here, has reembarked, leaving a considerable quantity of intrenching tools and other property, and apparently has relinquished his designs upon Vicksburgh.

CAIRO, Thursday, Jan. 8.
The steamer from Memphis has arrived. There is nothing later from Vicksburgh. The reason assigned by the passengers for the non-arrival of the steamer from Vicksburgh is, that the rebels have planted batteries at Cypress Bend, and thus prevented intercourse for the present. These will be easily cleared by our gunboats when communication becomes necessary.
By way of Grenada, a report had reached Memphis that there had been no fighting since the 29th ult.
Gen. GEO. W. MORGAN, who is reported to have been killed in the unsuccessful assault at Vicksburgh, was an educated soldier, having studied at West Point from 1841 to 1843. He was Colonel of the Second Ohio Regiment during the Mexican War, and gained the brevet rank of Brigadier-General for gallantry displayed at Contreras and Churubusco. A brilliant exploit which he performed, in conducting three hundred men from Ceralvo to Monterey, repulsing repeated attacks from a large cavalry force under Gen. UREA, greatly enhanced his reputation. President PIERCE appointed him United States Minister to Portugal, at which post he served for six years. Upon the appointment of his successor, by President LINCOLN, he returned to this country, and soon afterward received a Brigadier-General's commission. His services at Cumberland Gap, and the masterly retreat which he effected from that point, when he was nearly surrounded by the rebel forces,
