Some conservatives claim that a convention of states will "restore the Constitution to its former glory" and "defeat leftist tyranny." In reality, if there were any such convention, leftists would commandeer it, obliterating free speech and whatever remains of free assembly.

The left would hijack the whole process. I have to hear anyone explain how that could be prevented. It’s what they’re good at.
Just a conservative on twitter. I thought it was an interesting debate as I remember Levin wrote a book on it and really is pushing for one whereas organizations like the Birchers are steadfastly against it.
However, there are no more than 10 Congresscritters that I trust
much less trust their intentions to respect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights in a re-write.
Too many members of Congress have been bought off, blackmailed, or compromized; it's just a matter of price $$
I like him too when he talks about certain subjects. He sounds great when he’s on your side yet totally petulant and childish when he’s not.
So you believe the Framers purposely left a hand grenade in their fabulous work to purposely blow it up?
<>It’s a Trojan Horse that would lock in leftist tyranny to the end of time.<>
Psst. Except for the federal Electoral College and COS, the Left/Marxists own all of our remaining ruling institutions.
<>Conservatives are deluding themselves if they think a Constitutional convention will go the way they’re expecting.<>
It’s a good thing that such people like yourself weren’t dominant in 1776.
I think the post is more about what he said, than it is about who said it. For the poster wanted to know what other Freepers thought about a Convention of the States.
Activist and lawyer Phyllis Schlafly was totally against it. Since the Constitution mentions it but never really set any rules on how they are to function, makes for a lot of pitfalls. Almost seems like they added it as an extra layer of protection, but couldn't quite figure out how that protection really might work, and instead left it for others to hash out. An afterthought if you will that someone suggested and thus it was added.
I have flip flopped on it, when someone says there is nothing to worry about, though I have been most not in favor of it, because there are just so many unknowns about it. Besides that, if we can't work within the Constitutional framework, then it becomes even less likely to be a solution, and more like a Pandora's box that might unleash more harm than good.
<>It would work exactly like the 2020 election<>
Please explain.
Not this again. Every few years Levin and that phony Tea Party guy Mark Meckler bring this up. On Meckler’s part, I think it’s an attempt at staying relevant.
Revising our Constitution is not a great or even good idea in today’s world.
You have noticed the lack of character, intelligence, common sense, ethics and morality in our society, especially politicians.
Why mess with a document written by highly intelligent Christian men?
Not true. States will send delegates with detailed commissions.
It’s a terribly terribly bad idea. Even in the 1700s with extremely enlighten leaders and minimal media pressure, it took everything to get what we have. If we do something similar, we’ll lose probably 80% of our rights
<>RINO’s would be accomplices in quashing the needed amendments to right the American ship.<>
By your logic a COS could do no harm.
Then just keep voting and pretend it matters.
No thanks,
I like the document put together by people named Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Hamilton, etc.
Your argument would apply to the elimination of voting.
I think it is pretty clear that we aren’t going to get out of our situation through any legal maneuvering. The Left has taken control of the system. Elections can’t be trusted now, and a convention of the States would be no different.
Our forefathers stated clearly that the structure of our government was not sufficient to keep evil in check. It was only a guide for a population of moral people. And we are, for the most part, no longer such a people. Not only has the character of average Americans degraded, but our government is populated by the worst of the worst - thieves, liars, murderers, perverts, and flat out evil people. We will not be free of them, at this point, through any parliamentary means.
All it can do is propose amendments. It simply bypasses Congress, who was the originator of all the modern amendments. How have those worked out for you? The states then have to ratify under the same 3/4s rule as the ones passed by Congress. If there is more than one, each has to be ratified by the states separately. The states get the choice as to how to ratify.
How so?
