@JosephFordCotto

Some conservatives claim that a convention of states will "restore the Constitution to its former glory" and "defeat leftist tyranny." In reality, if there were any such convention, leftists would commandeer it, obliterating free speech and whatever remains of free assembly.

So then, what are the appropriate means today to restore free government?

An Article 5 convention is NOT a Constitutional convention. All that can happen is amendments can be proposed that have to be ratified by 38 states.

This scare mongering about the left throwing out the Constitution is leftist propaganda trying to scare us off fromsaving America.

Yeah 34, not 17. Forgot to multiply by 2. DOH!!!! 🙂

Well, we may have our first COS. 🙂

But are we sure that once a COS has been called, that other amendments can't be considered?

“...50 states. Two thirds would require 17 states...”

Check your math.

Start here:

Explain John Adams’ perception of what constitutes virtue.

“It’s a Trojan Horse that would lock in leftist tyranny to the end of time.”

Exactly right. Every leftist wet dream would be enshrined in a Constitution with 1,000 Amendments.

State delegations will be limited to what their state legislatures authorize in their commissions.

Many people equate the delegates to a COS with that of congressmen. This is an error.

Not two thirds 3/4 of the states are required.

3/4 = 38 states.

Yeah sure, and free beer tomorrow.
And Hillary Clinton wrote a book on raising children.
Zero chance all of that could be enacted by today’s delegates. Levin is a cloistered idiot who is correct about 50% of the time.

3/4 states to ratify.

You can’t. It’s over. Face facts. We are in an airliner traveling 450 knots, at a 40 degree downward angle, and we just passed through 500 feet AGL. Nothing can prevent impact.

The only way back now is after cataclysmic violence worse than the civil war, or possibly the aftermath of a nuclear war, or a complete economic collapse that forces the people to search for something new.
But there’s not a political process that can fix a deep spiritual and moral problem. Sorry for the bad news.

How can simply proposing an amendment to the constitution "obliterate free speech and whatever remains of free assembly"?

Do you know the original purpose of the Constitutional Convention of 1787?

Hint: The original mandate of the convention of states was not to write a new Constitution.

Runaway conventions are a thing. There was a runaway convention in 1787, but you can't be guaranteed that a runaway convention will act in the public interest like it did in 1787.

If “Free government is beyond the reach of elections” today, then there is no way we could have a free, open, and HONEST Convention of the States.

It cracks me up when I see comments like that. Was the Constitutional Convention of 1787 a Constitutional Convention? Was it called to write a new Constitution?

The answer is "no". The Constitutional Convention of 1787 was called to make revisions to the Articles of Confederation. It abandoned its original mandate and wrote a new Constitution.
