My parents had a friend who was Japanese. He was a riverboat captain & he would get ahold of really good shrimp. We would have tempura parties. It was always incredibly delicious š

It was probably the only tempura cooker in a 50-mile radius, and no restaurant served tempura. Today there are at least a dozen tempura-serving restaurants in my county, maybe 50 within an hour's drive.
I recall having a tempura Breaded Veal Cutlet in Yokohama. It was celestial!
We have a Fuju Buffet near us. All you can eat sushi and tempura, among other things (lots of Korean and Chinese items).
One day I tripped and all my tempura went under a counter. I let go with some expletives and folks started staring at me. I said “Sorry, I kind of lost my tempura.”
I love tempura, but tempura doesn’t love me.
Living in Seattle area we fortunately get lots of wonderful asian food places to choose from.
