DeSantis just keeps posting win, after win, after win.
Immediately following his inauguration to second term as governor of Florida, DeSantis is making HUGE changes to the way the state of Florida is doing business.
In his sights is the mega-woke Disney behemoth.
Disney messed with the wrong governor when they stuck their nose into Florida's business and tried to prevent the state from protecting children from grooming in schools.
A plan was announced Friday to introduce a bill into the Florida Legislature that would replace Walt Disney World's special self-governing power with a state-run board.
(snip)
"The corporate kingdom has come to an end," DeSantis' communications director, Taryn Fenske, told Fox News. "Under the proposed legislation, Disney will no longer control its own government, will live under the same laws as everyone else, will be responsible for their outstanding debts, and will pay their fair share of taxes."
If Disney is going to promote woke politics, oppose good governance, and stick up for groups that endanger children, then DeSantis is going to give them a taste of what it's like to not have special governing privileges.
He's going to teach the mouse a lesson.
The planned legislation will also ensure that the company will pay upwards of $700 million dollars in unsecured debt accumulated by Disney's special jurisdiction — known as the Reedy Creek Improvement District — and not Orange County taxpayers, according to the sources.
Last year, DeSantis signed a measure into law dissolving Walt Disney World's special governing power in the state after the company publicly opposed a new parental rights law in the state. At the bill signing ceremony, the Florida Republican said Disney lied about the "Parental Rights in Education" law's contents and that he viewed the company's vow to fight it as unacceptable.

He would have been upset at the notion that any “cast member” would be allowed to present themselves in anything less than a perfectly squeaky clean manner. The words haven’t been invented yet to describe how he would have reacted to a bunch of sexual deviants with nose rings and purple hair driving the company to use its influence to morally corrupt innocent children.

"I'm going to take over Disney's Land!"
Disney long ago lost being a wholesome family company... what’s amazing is it has taken decades for most of the public to realize it.
🤦♀️ Seriously??
Just no.
Yep, Walt was an adamant anti-communist.
What Disney is doing to itself is really a shame.
Many of the park’s employees are just regular people making a living and they’re the ones who will probably pay the price for a minority of sick individuals infesting the place.
Is there any other private corporation that operates as its own independent city-state?
It sounds downright medieval.
Demolish the whole thing.
Implode the buildings.
Plow up the foundations, blast them out when necessary.
Scoop it all up with heavy equipment and barge it up and dump it out in the deep ocean.
Have a tag team of Catholic Priests, Protestant Ministers, and Jewish Rabbis come in to do a collective exorcism of the place. You can’t be too sure.
Then don’t let anything like it take it’s place, ever again.
One Christmas I went to Florida to visit my sister who lived in Orlando back when Orlando was kind of a sleepy little village next door to Winter Park, anyway one evening we were watching the tele and the News came on and showed the golden shovel breaking ground for Disney World.
Both my sister and her boyfriend both exclaimed “well, there goes the neighborhood.”
“Many of the park’s employees are just regular people making a living and they’re the ones who will probably pay the price for a minority of sick individuals infesting the place.”
There’s a lot of information out there about how badly many employees were treated. I have a niece who worked there, and she is a bizarrely weird freak.
Good. Company towns are very bad. We have enough of them on the college campuses.
Is that all you do?
Jump from thread to thread insulting people you disagree with?
That appears to be the case.
You’re quite selective in your analysis.
That’s not a mouse.
It’s a Demon-Rat.
I went to some stores the day after Christmas in Orlando and the shelves were still loaded with Disney toys. People aren’t buying their crap.
Don’t kid yourself they are still making tons of money… but the shine (or what they call magic) is off the Apple.
Disney has fallen a long way from being a wholesome family friendly company…. But they aren’t remotely in any danger of going out of business.
