If you think US House of Representatives' failure to elect a Speaker is moving at a glacial pace after 11 votes over three days, that's only by modern standards.

Americans last witnessed a Speaker election like this one a century ago, in 1923, when another Republican rebellion led to nine rounds of voting.

But even that might be considered fairly speedy by the standards of lawmakers in 1855.

That year, as the 34th Congress kicked off, it took a record two months - and 133 ballots - to elect a Speaker....

Yeah, BBC. And shortly after the 1855 speaker votes America was at war with itself. I suppose that would be just another “been there, done that” too according to you, huh?

There’s a thought.

Teo less months of the government being able to screw up our country.

I’m trying to figure out how this is a bad thing.

It’s not working.

Maybe not Civil War, but it’s not inconceivable that the Republican Party breaks up and goes the way of the Whigs.

The last realignment was 50 years ago when the Dixiecrats became Republicans.

It seems to me that with the internal division within the GOP it might be time for conservatives to form their own political party! Time to break away from the tax and spend party. Time to break away from the democrat-lite party....

Shame on GOP, member, Kevin McCarthy!!! He should have put his House Speaker quest to bed over two months ago...right after election day on November, 8th!!! What a dummy deadbeat!! The house should have been running at 100% on January 3rd, 2023....if only McCarthy was awake at the wheel!!. As of this moment no House work is being done at all!! GOP, screws the American people who elected them to take care of the people’s business, not produce the “Chinese Fire Drill” they have given us, “We The People” want action!!! If McCarthy gets elected to become the speaker, today, he should immediately put the House in session and work these phony bastards through the weekend to make up the time they lost Dicking around!!! CASE Closed!!!

I don’t want the government doing anything but leaving us alone.

Kind of hard to not applaud the house not being able to actively screw us over this week. You know that as soon as they are in session the great whitewash of corruption will continue. Just the same as always.

Funny you should say that, it was going through my mind too. Along with Mark Twain’s observation;

Our lives, our liberty, and our property are never in greater danger than when Congress is in session.”
