It’s generally the same story in Russian reporting: it’s the Americans, the Poles, NATO, etc. The Russian government simply can’t admit it is slowly losing to the lowly Ukrainians.
Well, an important difference is that unlike the Afghans, the Ukrainians fight without the presence of American soldiers or air forces: no amount of American money could supply such motivation.

This. It was a big deal in Polish papers when 2 or 3 Poles were killed a few weeks ago. If thousands were killed, it would be a daily headline.
Not true: they required them to report their whereabouts to the local draft authorities but they haven't been called up. And if they were, with what would they be equipped and how would they be trained?
It often strikes me that the "end of history" shows that oligarchy and not representative democracy is the end form of human government.

I have a Russian Jewish buddy who left Russia 30 years ago for Israel. He worked in the propaganda group that worked with (yes, with) American journalists.
He days they now have giant server farms and people who can speak mainly English, but also Polish, German, and whatever dialect of Chinese they speak in Taiwan are given a chance to stay off the front lines by making sh-t posts like this. They work off a formula you can spot a mile away.
They get super scared when moved off script, since a screw up means they get sent to the front line.

Most of the FR critics of the Ukraine that I know follow The Duran, which is the go-to place for geopolitical information on the Interwebs.
They mostly discuss the DC neocons, when they talk about our domestic American politics at all.
