The Brackenridge police chief was killed and another officer was injured after shots were fired in Brackenridge on Monday.
The injured officer, a Tarentum police patrolman, has been released from the hospital according to the police department.
The incident prompted a heavy police presence as investigators searched for the suspect, 28-year-old Aaron Lamont Swan, Jr.
Swan was shot and killed by police after a chase and an exchange of gunfire in the city of Pittsburgh.
Here is what else we know so far: Shooting incident
Allegheny County police said the first encounter with Swan began Sunday night when Pennsylvania State Police conducted a traffic stop for violation of probation involving weapons. Police said he fled from the officers.
Monday morning, Harrison Township police engaged in a pursuit with Swan, and he fled on foot.
At around 2 p.m. on Monday, officers encountered Swan near the border of Brackenridge and Tarentum in a foot pursuit.
The chase lasted for several hours through different neighborhoods before two separate shootings, one in the 800 block of Third Street and another on Brackenridge Avenue.
Officers were hit in both shootings. The Brackenridge police chief, Justin McIntire, was shot and killed. Investigators believe he was ambushed.
A Tarentum officer was shot in the leg and is listed in stable condition. He was released from the hospital Monday afternoon and is recovering at home with his family.
