How does someone not immediately know the answer to 550 divided by 2? This is what happens when children are allowed to use pocket calculators in arithmetic class.
They can't do arithmetic.
But they have self-esteem ... and that's what really matters, isn't it?

It’s a trick the mind plays. We know that the answer starts with 200, and that 50/2 is 25, so immedietly the mind goes to 225.
Full disclosure: I thought 225 as well. At least I recognize the mind trick, and am not baffled.

Why is math so hard [for youngsters]?
Because "feelings" don't enter into arithmetic, geometry, trig, and calculus. It's about finding the precise right answer from available data.
The up-and-coming generations have a problem with that. Which can also explain why STEM is so difficult for the fairer sex.
