The Pelosi era comes to a close (BREAKING NEWS - top Democrat, the most powerful woman in U.S. politics to date, loses House for the SECOND time)

WASHINGTON - With a popular Democratic president in the White House and big Democratic majorities in Congress, an emboldened House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in 2009 pushed through a major climate change measure despite warnings of a political backlash.

“We passed transformational legislation which takes us into the future,” Pelosi exulted after the House narrowly approved legislation to cut emissions following her signature wheeling and dealing to corral reluctant Democrats.

It was a rare miscalculation. Her immediate future turned out to be in the minority as Democrats were crushed in the 2010 midterm elections by a public recoil to the climate bill, which died in the Senate, and a health care bill that was signed into law.

Pelosi refused to throw in the towel and step aside. She remained head of the defeated House Democrats and rose again in 2019 as a more pragmatic speaker, one who had learned from both her failures and successes and would preside over a period of remarkable legislative productivity. In the process, she sealed a legacy as the most powerful woman in U.S. politics to date.

What can arguably be called the Pelosi era in Washington came to a close at noon Tuesday as Republicans assumed control of the House and Pelosi finally retreated to the rank and file where, she insists, she does not intend to be a meddling mother-in-law offering unsolicited advice.

But her presence will be felt for years in the climate, health care, public works and social legislation she ushered through to signatures by two Democratic presidents, as well as the big moments of her tenure capped off by the electrifying invitation to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine to address Congress just days before she lost the gavel.

But she will never be held accountable, hence evil persists and our country will continue to suffer.
It’s our own fault for not punishing evil deeds.

Well said. It provides a new tag line.

>>Only God can save this country, because we sure can’t.<<

God has no intention to save our country.
That’s why HE gave us Biden&Co.

That was self inflicted.

I know someone will say "we didn't vote for him", but if you helped the big tech companies make money as they shut him down, and if you poured money into the coffers of the media with your TV subscriptions as they lied about Trump and us, then you might as well have voted for Biden.

Right big tech?

You know - as bad as Hillary was/is, I think Pelosi IS WORSE. I know - that woman drove me nuts for many, many years but still - Pelosi is a different kettle of fish...She had too much power and didn’t mind who she stepped on. Hillary never had that power - she was hated for a lot of reasons and thank goodness, she never got the power!!!

Not with the current Congress. There's no way the Senate will convict a democrat of anything.

That's why we need to talk with our spending dollars and our choices of who we make rich if we're going to save this country.

But then it goes back to the question of whether we're willing to do that. Giving the likely answer, that goes back to my original point.
