‘Fifteen-minute cities,’ gaining traction in a post-pandemic world, are already here in Arlington

While the pandemic prompted a well-documented exodus to, and development of, sleepy suburban and exurban towns, the Rosslyn Business Improvement District says it has identified a different Covid migration pattern.

About a quarter of Americans reported moving to cities where they could be within a 15-minute walk or bike ride of grocery stores, healthcare and parks, according to a national survey by the BID.

The survey also found 41% plan on moving to be within walking or biking distance of their preferred amenities — including coffee shops, schools and gyms — in the next one to three years. That’s in contrast with places that prioritize mobility by motor vehicle, with sidewalks and bike lanes as a relative afterthought.

If we were living in a free world, it would be nice.

My daughter lives in such a neighborhood in Japan. For greater than 15 minutes, you can take a mag-lev train off the island to connect to the main rail line midway between the downtown areas of Kobe and Osaka.

You can also rent a car and drive to the country with a short walk to one of the two rental lots on the island.

How far to the shooting range?
= = =

It could be right outside your door.

Set up some pre measured range distances.

I am with in 15 walking minutes of everything thing I need.

Of course I live in the country. And we own the land I would be walking on.

Now if you are talking about things I WANT that is a bit of a drive a couple times a month.

But I can live without a lot of things I want.

Japan has one huge advantage over the US.

It is called the Japanese people—the crime rate is amazingly low.

In addition their leaders actually support native Japanese instead of discriminating against them in the name of “affirmative action”.

I did notice that “work” was not on the list of things in walking distance, unless you are planning on working at a coffee shop or gym.

Yeah, do these people earn any income? Work from home? The welfare crowd has no job to work at (but they are well versed in social media access and manipulation). Call a work-from-home plumber. He can walk 15 minutes with 20 feet of pipe, fittings, and tools. And electricians, delivery truck drivers (OH they will be driverless EVs), etc?????

There’s nothing like moving to the country or an outlying suburb, so you can drive everywhere and turn into a beached whale. Maybe they’ll design vehicles to accommodate that even more than the top heavy bubble-looking rides we’re seeing.

Nothing like living in the city where you can watch your child being thrown in front of trains.

If you want a closer description, It will probably be like a worker’s camp, with a Quarter Master’s store that you use company strips to buy your needs.

But do you really believe that living on a company’s land, working for the company and buying your needs with non-trabsferable and non-saveable strips of credit won’t be like living on a plan.

The ghetto merely describes a neighbourhood, where you cannot get in/out. How we will live there sounds a lot like a plantation to me.

>>i live within one mile of my parish church, grammar school, high schools, city hall, park, parish courthouse, drugstores, grocery stores (plural), restaurants, bars, and general hospital. In my culture, this is a good thing.<<

Just wait until millions of Illegals move in. The city will come to you!

Except nice communities is not what the left is after. They are after putting 10,000 people/sq mile, just like they did every other ghetto.

They might give you a community park for you to share with 9,999 other citizens.

I don’t think so. The has been pretty upfront about its desires to reduce the population to 500 million people.

Can you be more specific on who wants to reduce by 500 million people. I’ve read a lot from the WEF, I’ve never seen that.
When they do these countries, then I will be concerned.

Not by 500 million. To 500 million.
The WEF wants to do that. The reason for billion people mass immigration is end the nation states.

Where are getting your information, do you have links? I have not seen that anywhere either.
I don’t agree with the WEF but many of their solutions are to the right of AOC’s green new deal.

That’s because AoC is a communist and Klas Schwab’s father was a veritable Nazi.

I pull my sources from the same information as everybody who has done the research and has been saying the same things. Do you really think the left that murdered 250 million people in the twentieth century, enslaved over a billion, threw blacks and Jews into ghettoes and poverty, aborted over two billion children, and started the majority of major wars are interested in creating good environments for human beungs?

It troubles me that there are still people who can know what the left dud and they state they will do it again, but those same people disbelieve the left.

Maybe you’ll finally learn when you’re in thar ghetto they are designing. Maybe you won’t learn even then.

This concept really only works in places like Scandinavia where you have really well planned and far reaching public transportation to get to work.

Without that, Americans are still in their cars, 2-3 hours a day and, at that point, you are going to use the car to get to whatever restaurant, store, etc. you need to get to.

Also, Americans do not have the leisure time to park the car and walk to these places.

Additionally, these ideas worked in places with high trust, safe societies, like Scandinavia, Japan and much of Northern Europe once were. Public transportation in the United States is not at all pleasant or safe in most areas.

But why let reality interfere with the social planning.
