The Poseidon Adventure would look very cheesy today. It didn’t date very well.

Maureen McGovern’s “The Morning After” is on my personal play list. Pretty serious cast. I saw it at 9 years old in the theatre, thought it was okay, and have had no desire to see it again. Another one of those water stories.

Strange, I saw a show recently about that movie and how one of the female characters had to gain a significant amount of weight to get the part.

Maureen McGovern - remember that song well.
Poseidon Adventure was one of the first adult movies I saw as a child. I was about 10 years old when it came out. One of those "disaster" movie blockbusters, along with Earthquake, Airport, Towering Inferno and a few others I can't remember. I also remember a movie on killer bees. All of them rather cheesy when watched today.
I would love to see MST3K do some riffs on them but I guess they can't afford to buy the rights.
Anyway, the 1979 "Airplane" movie did a great job satirizing that whole disaster movie phenomenon from the mid 1970s.

Might have been Shelly Winters. Her and Ernest Borgnine were the best part of that movie.

Surely you can't forget Leslie Nielsen was in it.

Leslie Nielson was in it. Just watch it differently. Celebrate the cheese..

Yep, now if I see Leslie Nielsen in any serious role, I still crack up.

I think I will. If only to see Leslie Nielson in a serious role.
Here's a clip from that movie featuring Nielson as the ship's captain up on the bridge.

Yep, now if I see Leslie Nielsen in any serious role, I still crack up. Yup. There's a Columbo episode with Leslie Nielson being killed by Patrick McGoohan. They use code words on the phone. Nielson is in glory with an open shirt and a gold dog tag. They meet at a carnival where they keep a low profile by winning the top prize in the shooting gallery. Then Nielson gets his brains blown out.
