Megalomania induced by cancer drugs was a factor in Vladimir Putin's decision to launch his disastrous war in Ukraine, new Western intelligence analysis claims.
-snip-
The analysis comes as the Kremlin yesterday admitted that concerns over Putin's health are now a matter of 'state security' amid Covid mutations and emerging flu strains.
This means the Russian leader may retreat even further from public gaze in early 2023 after having cancelled a series of events and appearances in recent months.
-snip-
The Kremlin has paved the way for Putin to retreat for health-related reasons soon after his annual prerecorded New Year message to Russian citizens.
His spokesman Dmitry Peskov yesterday indicated there were now 'state security' concerns in Russia over Putin's medical condition.
'You see virus mutations, you see strong epidemiological waves of flu of various strains,' he said.
'All of this, given the lessons from the pandemic, obliges those responsible for the security of the president and for his health to take precautions, because in such conditions the health of the president is a matter of state security.'
Peskov said there would be no return anytime soon to Putin's modus operandi before the pandemic, when he regularly held public events and spoke with the media.
'To be honest, it is unlikely that [communication with journalists] will be quite the same as it used to be before the pandemic in the foreseeable future,' Peskov said.
'To expect things to return to what used to be would be a mistake. I would say - no it won't be [back to the same].
'But as these waves subside to their lowest points, then it would be possible to communicate in a freer mode.'

“No...but I’m also not damn glad’ the United States meddled in the Soviet Afghan war, which gave rise to a terrorist mastermind and spawned numerous atrocities including 9-11...ymmv”
So, your desire would have been to have the USSR take over Afghanistan?
Look at a map. Iran was in turmoil in 1979 (the shah had been deposed early in the year and the US embassy was taken over by the islamists in November). With the USSR controlling Afghanistan Iran would be ripe for the picking (a map is very instructional here: Soviet ally Iraq bordered Iran on the west; the USSR itself bordered Iran along the latter’s entire northern border; Afghanistan and Pakistan bordered Iran on its east; the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman were on Iran’s southern border. The only problem for the USSR exerting hegemony over Iran was Pakistan, which had pretty close ties to the West; and Turkey, which shared a short border with Iran at the latter’s extreme northwest corner. But, the Soviets reasoned that India, a somewhat ally of Russia and a confirmed enemy of Pakistan could be used to exert pressure on Pakistan, and maybe even get Pakistan to give the USSR use of its four southern seaports (Karachi; Qasim; Keti Bunder; and Gwadar). As for Turkey (a NATO country) the Soviets would remain very far away from that border, as its interests would be with the warm water ports on the southern gulfs. Look what the Soviets would have stood to gain if it could neutralize Iran and compromise Pakistan!
The USSR invaded Afghanistan in December, 1979, AFTER the shah was deposed and AFTER the US embassy in Iran was taken over.
Also, remember that Pakistan did not develop a nuclear weapon until May, 1998 (the first successful atomic weapons test by Pakistan). So, it posed no real threat to the USSR.
The Soviets tried to conquer Afghanistan on the cheap, relatively speaking. But, what a gain for the Kremlin had it been successful!
“I have more musical knowledge and talent in my little finger than you have in your whole four-foot-tall body, Zippy the Clown. 😂🤣”
Nice try, Sparky. Oh, wait: Sparky was male. So, I guess I should say, Sparkette.
“People who love Biden and Pelosi like you do should feel honored that we even let you talk to us.”
Like a typical nitwit, you assume facts not in evidence. You are one of those rare people of whom it can be said, “Whenever you speak, something is subtracted from the sum total of human knowledge.” In other words, you are a sum negative (i.e., less than a zero) upon the human experience.
Aren’t you the guy who boasted about ambushing special-ed kids on the school bus? Or do I have you mixed up with one of the other trolls?
“No amount of geopolitical ‘what if’ gymnastics will bring back the 3000+ civilians killed in the WTC on 9/11..not to mention the thousands of US military killed since then...”
A family member among them, buddy.
“That’ the same altar where fools like you and Biden worship.”
Nice try, Sparky.
Lol...did you run out of deep state talking points again, short bus? -
But still "damn glad" the US gave Osama bin Ladin a helping hand...go figure.
“But still ‘damn glad’ the US gave Osama bin Ladin a helping hand...go figure.”
Nice try.
The US, Saudia Arabia, and China funded the mujahadin fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan. The CIA arranged for arms to be shipped to the mujahadin. The funding was not made directly to the mujahadin, but was paid through the Pakistani government. Osama bin Laden was one of the many mujahadin. However, he did not create militant Al-Queda until after the Soviets had withdrawn from Afghanistan in 1989. It was created to take on future “holy wars.” We never funded or armed Al-Queda specifically.
You are fixated on one man. It’s kind of like saying that the US funded and armed the USSR in its war against Germany, and so the US is responsible for some Soviet general summarily executing German POWs, or for Soviet troops brutalizing and slaughtering German civilians. It makes a tantalizing sound bite, but it is far from accurate.
So, it WAS you who boasted about ambushing special-ed kids on the school bis?

I’m not even reading your posts anymore, Zippy. I see your scree name and I hear the clown music.
I generally don’t talk to Democrats except for on occasion for entertainment purposes. Especially short Democrats.
So, it’s been fun, but the 🤡 🎪 sound is getting a little irritating.
Happy New Year and I hope you see the light eventually. There’s always hope. :)
LOL - I see the Democrat is still doing that “So…” thing. I have a friend who’s an English teacher and she teaches her students to break that “So…” habit.
Happy New Year!
No dipstick, that's just some twisted lie you like to tell.
Yes, and its a tell that someone is trolling.
Freeper: I have family in Ukraine
BobL: that’s like saying I channel the dead spirit of Reagan
On top of being a complete moral degenerate Bob, you’re also a confirmed retard. Congratulations on obtaining this combination of traits.
Some people are simply UNABLE to understand my point.
No I understand it perfectly. It’s just that it’s plain retarded. You are genuinely and completely retarded, buddy.

Some people develop a negative attitude when their money spigot about to be turned off by Russia.
