Has anyone watched King of Tulsa with Sylvester Stallone on Paramount+ ?
Overall it's not bad, but as I am watching it something feels familiar about the premise and story arc.
Then I realized that is is essentially the same concept and story line that was used in Lillehammer on Netflix.
Basic outline is:
Gangster has issue with "family" and moves to new city where he meets the new city police in a social setting.
Then starts a new crime syndicate. Comes into conflict with existing local crime syndicate.
Lillehammer is Steven VanZant (Silvio from The Sopranos) and Tulsa King is Sylvester Stallone.
The story line parallels are too obvious.
“Has anyone watched King of Tulsa with Sylvester Stallone on Paramount+ ?”
Are you referring to “Tulsa King?”
Haven’t seen King Of Tulsa, but we enjoyed Lillehammer.
I watched the 2nd episode only because it was broadcast on the Paramount non pay network (as a teaser to buy Paramount plus I suspect).
Yes it was entertaining. As I understand it this is Stallone’s 1st gangster role ever.....what a surprise since he would seem to fit the part to a T.
As far as comparing to the other show you mentioned, I wouldn’t doubt it.
I watched a movie recently on the Crackle channel called “Crown Vic” starring Thomas Jane.
I also watch the old TV show Adam-12 regularly.......it took a couple of days but it finally dawned on me....Crown Vic was an updated version of Adam-12.
A rookie cop being shown the ropes by a veteran both set in Los Angeles.
Both driving a black and white patrol car...... switching from Mopar to Ford....for obvious reasons.
All they did was make it a lot more hard core with language and violence involving today’s issues.
Apparently hollywood really is out of ideas.
Tulsa King...King of Tulsa.
Yeah...it was great....waiting for the follow up
And the Lillihammer series also fun.
It may be a re-wright, but I am enjoying Tulsa King.
They really are out of ideas. The parallels in the story arc were just to obvious.
In Lillehammer, Giovanni (VanZant) meets the chief of police in the first episode, as a neighbor.
In Tulsa King, Dwight (Stallone) meets ATF agent in a bar and sleeps with her in the first episode.
The similarities are present in the the entire story line. Even the "coming home" moments.
Hollywood wonders why they can't get audiences. Need more creative writers and better story lines.
Yes, I find it excellent. Very enjoyable fir me because I grew up in Oklahoma
YES!!! I sat down to watch an episode or 2 of Tulsa last night and very quickly realized it was Lillehammer Part Duex. Lillehammer was so much fun. Tulsa will not be able to be that good.
Tulsa seems ok and I’ll probably watch more but that is mostly due to lack of anything else worthwhile to watch.
Sometimes recycling works. I thought Parasite was entertaining.
Yeah kinda. But Lillehammer was a comedy with a bit of drama. Tulsa King is a drama with some comedy. You can tell by the body count, and the competence of the “crews”. I mean technically all fish out of water stories are Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, cause there really are only so many plots.
I knew hollywood was in trouble way back when they started making movies out of comic books.
While many are entertaining its still technically a retread in a way but CGI has saved the day for them.
I predict one day CGI will be so good human actors will no longer be needed.
I’ll be long gone by then but imagine these high maintenance over paid lib actors being told they are no longer needed......it brings a smile to my face every time I think about it.
Do you eat at “King of the Burger” as well :)
It's been that way for several decades.
It's been that way for several decades.
If you saw the movie DAYLIGHT, it was just a rewrite of THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE under the Hudson River.
I realized that when I started picking out who would die next, and when they would have to swim underwater with one person dying upon getting to the other side.
I departed tv viewing a decade ago. Mostly communistic trash. I will watch an episode of bluebloods if wife reminds me. I much prefer otr from the 40s and 50s. Better scripts more originality. Strong AmericA agenda. Psa pro citizen and capitalism. Encouragement to be better Americans. Probably monitor 8 hours a day and not confined to a dang screen.
Listen to Amos and Andy. Try not to laugh. Eleanor Roosevelts favorite. Said FDR could not deliver a fireside chat if it interfered. America loved it.
As I understand it this is Stallone’s 1st gangster role ever.....what a surprise since he would seem to fit the part to a T.
Agreed. He is really good. I am liking him more and more, with the understanding he probably did some crazy stuff when he was younger.
My wife and I watched Demolition Man the other night. Man did that movie get a lot right about the deep state. And Sandra Bullock was funny in it also.
A wise old Hollywood hack once told me there are only two basic plots.
Somebody goes on a journey.
A stranger comes to town.
TULSA KING straddles both plots. I suppose LILLEHAMMER does too.
Having seen all 7 episodes of TK so far, I can say it’s a lot of grisly fun. Can’t ask for more from a mordant crime story.
