Just a return to Old Europe. It’s American post-WW2 culture that people should bathe daily. It was a stinky place before that. Hotel rooms with their own toilets and showers was also an American thing, and old hotels still require going down the hall to use the facilities.
Europe was always a different country, and as American influence wanes, it will return to being noticeably so.
