When I went to Germany for my job back in 2000, I stayed in a B&B near the German AFB near Berlin.
There was a bar/restaurant downstairs where I mainly spent my off time.
The waitress/bartender was also the maid for the B&B.
She spoke a little English so we would talk about differences in life between America and Germany.
She said to me, “You Americans are a very clean people.” (There were other Americans there as well.)
“Because I pick up your towels from your bathrooms and do the laundry every morning. I know you all take baths every night.”
“But doesn’t everybody?” I asked
“No, my husband only takes a bath on Saturday nights.”..................

When I lived in the Vaterland in the 60’s, hanging dirty clothes out on a clothesline to air out was called “German dry cleaning”. This was still a carry over from the extremely austere post World War 11 years.
