Jailhouse Interview: Stewart Rhodes warns Trump is next for politically motivated prosecution
The Washington Times ^ | Dec 28 | By Joseph Clark

Posted on 12/28/2022 12:00:45 PM PST by RandFan

Stewart Rhodes, the founder of the Oath Keepers militia who was recently convicted of seditious conspiracy in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, said his case is a harbinger of what the Justice Department has in store for former President Donald Trump

The former Army paratrooper and Yale Law School graduate turned militia leader warned that his conviction on the rare Civil War-era charge has set an ominous precedent that should be a wake-up call for conservatives.

“Their success in my trial is paving the way for them to keep rolling through other people building up to Trump,” Rhodes told The Washington Times. “It was a warmup for what they’re going to do. That’s what that was — a political show trial.”

The Justice Department charged 11 members of the Oath Keepers with seditious conspiracy in connection with the riot. Prosecutors said the group coordinated travel to Washington with the intent of interrupting the peaceful transfer of power after the November 2020 presidential election.

Rhodes, who spoke to The Times from a detention facility in Virginia, plans to appeal the verdict. But he said the conviction has already set a dangerous precedent.

“Seditious conspiracy now is the most dangerous weapon that the deep state and the establishment have to use against dissent,” Rhodes said. “There’s no requirement, no element of that charge that includes an act in furtherance of a conspiracy.”

“It wipes out the free speech of the American people,” he said. “If it is used against anyone, the jury will be free to use their speech against them in a criminal proceeding.”

He predicted the Justice Department has others in its sights, including the former president.

“They’re going to do the exact same thing to President Trump,” Rhodes said. “.. They’re going to prosecute Trump.”

Jeepers, the deep state is going to be busy - they have war with Russia, will probably get one with China, and then they will need to actively suppress at least half of the American people. All at the same time.

Have they bitten off more than they can chew?

Well, the problem is that at the time of the alleged “conspiracy”, Trump was a sitting President, so he probably cannot be indicted for anything done during that time (or even if he is indicted it’s highly like a higher court would toss the case out).

And they already tried the proper route of impeachment and failed at that.

I will say this again, because I believe it. If the Do(in)J brings charges against President Trump in DC, he will be convicted on all counts. What the charges are, is irrelevant. What evident they haver or don’t have is irrelevant. A DC jury will convict on all counts even if the Do(in)J doesn’t even present their case at all, but just gives an opening statement and rests.

The only way that DJT will be brought to *trial* is if he runs and wins in '24. Otherwise, just after the '24 Election the case(s) will be dropped as quickly and quietly as was the investigation of Rudy just a few weeks ago.

And if he does run and win the worst they can do is impeach him....which is very unlikely to result in "conviction".

And yes,Pierre Delecto will vote to convict.

n the United States, seditious conspiracy is codified at 18 U.S.C. § 2384:

If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both.

(So will trump be indicted annd convicted with this? Inflation so, in which capacity, ans president or personally? And if so, will in the future officeholders be legally prevented from speaking their views in public after trump is indicted and possibly convicted?)

“Trump was a sitting President”

Yep, Trump was trying to overthrow himself and the entire Federal government with a few unarmed rioters.

I think it was the guy with the Viking horns that terrified the Leftists.

Yes, they were probably sexually threatened by him and are responding to his Freudian phallic aggression in an irrational way.

As in, it’s gonna happen?

Where have you been since 2015, Rhodes?

These DS folks have a lot of balls using “seditious conspiracy” as a legal tool to bring down MAGA defendants. That phrase perfectly defines leftist efforts since the Obama administration. Possibly long before that (think JFK etc).

Treason trials in Gitmo military tribunals should scare the crap out of them. The first perp walks and a few convictions should spook many deepers into becoming whistle blowers. LEOs know that you needn’t nab the top culprit, you grab some underlings and they will start to sing when a couple life sentences or death penalties are paraded in the media.

We have had decades of leftists conspiring to attack, and then attacking, all levels of government. Some as recently the last few years. They are not prosecuted for this...
