Back then, I recall we kids didn’t have the luxury of feeling one way or another about edicts from parents. What they said was the way things were. Period.
Looking back, now I wish I had been allowed to be normal. (Couldn’t dance, wear shorts/slacks, go to movies, etc.). Of course, it was good training on how to not be affected by peer pressure the rest of my life - LOL!
We did not celebrate Halloween in our family.. one of several things we did not do that the children didn’t particularly like as kids. However it taught them internal strength and to manage peers.
They each do well now.
My parents weren’t that restrictive; but they trained us well, and we weren’t sheep, either.
