Florida wildlife officials learned this years ago.
Bears relocated always return ‘home’, even 500 miles away.
Now they just euthanize nuisance bears.................

1,000 miles from the Great Smokies, part of which are in Tennessee, from Cherokee National Forest, which is in Tennessee?
Bryson City, N.C. (Just South of main body of the GSNP), to Hampton, Tenn, (the Northern most part of Cherokee NF)... 132 miles.

Rule one: Don't feed them or leave food lying around your campsite. That teaches bears that humans are a source of food, which can lead to dangerous interactions and the need for relocations.Or worse...

A few years back I had an encounter with a black bear in the Smokey Mountains. It just stood on the trail watching me. It didn’t leave the trail until some other hikers came up behind it on the trail. I mentioned it to the rangers and they got exact location of where it happened. They try to keep an eye on bears that could end up being a problem.

The average range of A bear can be a hundred miles. They didn’t move her far enough.

Most relocated bears don't fare as well as 609, researchers have found. "The outcome really isn't that good. You know, some of the preliminary data is suggesting the majority of those bears are dying in some form or fashion within four months. Whether it's vehicle collisions, additional conflict, hunter-killed, and things of that nature," Stiver said.
And this is a problem because...?
