I live in an early-60's-build house. For the most part, it's wonderful, but it has very little insulation. I've been meaning to rectify that, but didn't yet.
So, after spending a warm night buried under blankets, I wake up to a shivering-cold set of rooms, all under 60 degrees F.... even though me and the missus set all the baseboard heating to max and left both space heaters going.
So, I decide to go to Walmart. I find two pallets of space heaters, one of them Infra-red, and one of them Oil-radiant. Both are electric.
I go ahead and put one of each in my cart, get a few food items, then decide to pick up one more Infra-red heater.... maybe 5 minutes later.
BOTH PALLETS ARE CLEANED OUT... when I get to the register, everyone had a pair of those heaters in their cart.

The Biden Blackouts are sweeping the nation.
Forget domestic energy capability.
Ukraine is much more important to the U.S citizenry.

5 degrees F this morning near Quantico VA. Doors of my car frozen shut, and even after a 20 minute drive, the electric windows frozen shut.
Sheesh. So much for โglobal warmingโ!

It’s 21 degrees here in NE Texas. 12 degrees where I used to live in Maryland.

Humorous: TVA (government) instituting 'rolling blackouts' (PURE BS) around East Tennessee as a result of the National Weather Service (government) declaring that we are ALL victims of this 'once in a generation' storm.
LOLOL!

Same thing here. My fuel oil boiler can’t keep up with the cold. The thermostat is et to 72 degrees but the house never got over 67 degrees yesterday(Thursday).

we had a coal/wood furnace when i was a kid....all gravity, we piled coats on us at night. Mom would turn the oven on for a bit with a pan of water inside. Rushed to get to school where it was toasty warm.
It was a big job keeping that furnace going...but the "smoked" baked apples hot from the furnace were to die for.
To: caver
It not the boiler. It’s your windows and lack of proper insulation.

Luckily, I’m in a county where Buford Dam provides much of the power. Plus, it’s a Co-op, so they aren’t trying to milk every penny out of us.

I rent a farmhouse built in 1920....no insulation. Heat is set at 64. Had a windy day yesterday and everytime a gust blew, the furnace kicked on. Wind is a nightmare as it blows through the house. We have plastic on the windows but not the walls. ;-)
We keep the bathroom door closed with an electric heater on in the room. It gets down to 56 in there so it's a must to have the heater. It's a toasty 70 and everyone loves that room.

Five degrees in Lenoir City, TN, at 6 a.m. TVA is having rolling blackouts, so we are powerless for 15-minute intervals every once in a while. (Does it bother anybody that “THEY” can control your heat remotely? I guess they always could, but after Covid these things seem more sinister.)

Merry Christmas, Laz!
I keep asking Santa to bring you a cute blonde! Hope he comes through this year!

Installed two wood stoves this summer to offset the crazy increase in electricity rates here in Northen Sicily, Italy since I can get all the wood I need for free.
Today it was 65 degrees and hasn't been cold yet this year. Butttttttt . . if I'd said, "screw it" this summer and not installed the stoves it would have no doubt been record cold here since the middle of November. Lololol!
Hey brother, install a wood stove in your house! The quality of the heat a wood stove kicks out just cant be beat and there's nothing that can break either.
