I don't remember when I learned that Santa was fake. But I never thought my parents were liars because of it...most of us public school urchins outside of Philadelphia knew it was something cultural and rolled with it.

However, plenty of public school classmates made fun of other classmates who still believed in Santa. In addition, we all thought that if we keep telling our parents "we believe," we could keep this gift train rolling.

Does this mean "Santa" turns kids into cold, calculating scheming trolls? Maybe. But we never held it against our parents.

I don’t know anyone who became a ‘cold, calculating, scheming troll’ because of a childhood belief in Santa. Most that I know grew up to be jolly and generous and to love Christmas and making it for others.
