The social media site is a high school popularity contest that creates echo chambers and stifles diversity of thought in the news media.
Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter has played out in the media for months now. It’s one of those stories that won’t go away. After riding into town on a high horse, talking about freedom of speech and eliminating bias, Musk has proceeded to wield power seemingly based only on his own whims, banning accounts that mock him and setting inscrutable rules for what is and is not permissible.
These actions have been relentlessly covered by the news media, usually with howls of angst.
The machinations of one of the world’s richest men will always be of public interest, and Twitter has been a profoundly influential social network for many years now. But part of the reason that such an immense amount has been written and said about this story is that our media class—our writers, pundits, and journalists—is made up of obsessive Twitter users, the kind of people who check the site habitually and ritualistically throughout their day. And that’s why the problems revealed by Musk’s ownership are bigger than Musk.

It is to laugh.
Now that they can’t lie with impunity, they don’t like it.
May I suggest our chef special..Sour grapes served over a warm bed of crow sprinkled with just a touch of hubris?
A couple of notes: The term FBI doesn’t see to be in his vocabulary. Also the banning of conservatives is bad enough, but conservatives running for office, or in office (like Trump) is far worse, and needs to be called out - the fact that he doesn’t call this out tells me that his version of ‘free speech’ only applies to the speech he approves of.
The BIG PROBLEM for any of these ‘important people’ leaving Twitter is that none of us ‘little people’ (as they see us) will join them - and they already have their own, closed, networks for that.
So they are STUCK, and the only way out is to get government guns pointed at Twitter (either actually, or figuratively), so that Twitter goes back to ‘doing the right thing’ (in their eyes).
The irony of course it that the “journalists” corrupted the place. Free reign to fabricate fakenews unchallenged created an echo chamber. Echo chambers are only acceptable to to extreme. Their departures or their acceptance of a level playing field has only improved the site. Its not going to die imho. As pointed out, its very important to alot of self important people.
All those folks who were gonna leave Tweater when Musk took over? Did I happen? Don’t think so.
Like all the celebs that threaten to move out of the US when a Republican gets elected POTUS.
lol you wish. Now we’re turning it against you libtards. And you know what we’re gonna do? We’re going to say what we think is true!
How can there be legit “echo chambers on Twitter, when it’s supposed to be open to the world, unlike Facebook?
It can only be an echo camber when only one side is allowed on it, to broadcast to the world.
If Freddie DeBoer thinks this is bad just wait until we buy off “our” FBI and ‘intelligence’ thugs and start ‘rewarding’ private companies for pushing OUR take on reality.
Good for the stupid vile goose - good for the gander.
The media is also being exposed as having no audience now that we can see the view count.
