Of course every story is different.
Some adults are living at home because they just cannot afford homes of their own.
These days, millions of young people graduate from college with massive amounts of debt, and when all of that debt forces them to go back to living with their parents they are referred to as “boomerang kids”.
If you are a young person that has been financially crippled by student loan debt, I certainly don’t blame you for trying to save money so that you can turn your life around.
Ultimately, trying to get out of debt is a really good thing.
But of course there are millions of other young adults that simply refuse to grow up.
In fact, they have become so numerous that the toy industry has created a special term for them. They are called “kidults”, and these days they are spending billions of dollars on toys…
Have you ever met an adult that has a special room for all of his Star Wars collectibles?
If so, then you probably have a really good idea of the type of person that I am talking about.
“Kidults” are shelling out so much money for toys that toy companies have actually begun to create “product lines just for these consumers”…

“I paid my loans, my wife’s loans and for my 4 kids to go thru college with zero financial aid - you slackers can pay your own dam bills.”
My kids both paid their own way through school. My son even took a government job instead of going into the private sector so they will pay off his student loans. He will get the experience he needs for the future and is helping families in the community.
I know and consider this often, from the viewpoint that if this resident generation ever experienced what some of these illegals have gone through, would they just be fodder along the road?
The fact that many illegals are here, are holding jobs, swinging hammers, running mowers, cleaning your hotel rooms, working in food processing plants...all jobs this resident generation refuse to do... what should our immigration policy look like going forward?
Employers have been screaming for nearly 2 years about staffing problems and here we have an article talking about kidults. Adults that refuse to grow up, refuse to participate in civil society, refuse essentially to work. As an employer in the service sector I know longer am willing to accept the idea of ‘pay more.’ This is not about paying more, this is a cultural and attitude issue. It is a motivational problem that is an outgrowth of the everybody gets a trophy generation. These ‘adults’ never learned to fail, cope or how to succeed. And when or if they do get a job, they have no idea how to work. Their concerns center more on the ‘culture of the company’ than the job at hand.
There can be no culture without the job getting done, without the business, without leadership, and without profitability.
Adults who refuse to grow up are like children. They can be bought off with so-called "free stuff" and fairy tales of equality of outcome.
Mature people know better.
The first time I heard the work Kidult was yesterday. Since then, this is the third article I’ve seen.
Although none of our kids got the category, one does live in his grandma’s basement.
He’s an OTR trucker and only home on weekends. Not worth getting his own place right now.
Kidult, originally adult children, peterpans... pick your noun.
The problem is they are not working to their potential. Totally understand your son’s situation...but he’s busting a butt. Kidults are not even close to working McDonalds.

Yes they can, but they can't have a new $50,000 car, eat out everyday, refuse to cook at home, drink the finest liquor and $9/glass brew pub beer, take more vacations than a retired person finally taking trips, buying $10,000 engagement rings and having $50,000 weddings. You get the picture, it's called budgeting and having priorities.

I keep almost nothing of mine in my office.
It was clear my post was about adults making their offices look like a children’s room.
Misread that, my bad.
There are a couple of offices and cubes that qualify.
My oldest just graduated college, got married, and moved in with his wife’s family. He has about $23K in college debt. I expect that he will pay that back within a year and then start saving for a house.
My middle child is in college. Pays for his own car, phone, gas, repairs, clothes, dog, entertainment, and helps around the house. I expect that he will stay with us till he graduates, pays off his debt, and gets enough together for a down-payment on a house. Even now, outside of necessities, he spends very little. He likes to save money.
My youngest is still in high school. He has Asbergers. I expect him to never move out.
I don’t mind my kids living under my roof for several years after graduating college. The more time they spend building savings for their own home instead of paying a landlord, the better.
It also helps that they are loving, kind, hardworking, quiet, respectful, and help around the house since my health took a turn for the worst.
Growing up is correlated to growing old. More like getting old. What is it about golf and bowling that makes one an adult? Those are games that grown up people play. There are plenty of adults that play card games. Those are childlike. Adults have watched soap operas and james bond movies. Those are fiction. When does fiction stop being children and start being adult? People who think that I need to grow up are welcome to go on ahead of me on their way to the old people hospital. I think I will keep at least one of my feet in childhood and enjoy comic book movies and cartoons. And toys.
Rents are high because of property taxes which are put on landlords and they have to be passed on. Section 8 housing since it is paid for by government inflates the cost of other housing by taking a large portion of rental properties out of competition. Rent controls don’t help because they make rents go way up between tenants because you can’t raise rents on current tenants. Then there’s the difficulty in eviction of delinquent or destructive tenants. A lot of damage can occur when a tenant is unhappy or unwilling to cooperate. And the Covid era rental moratoriums that were mandated but not compensated have left big holes in landlords’ pockets.
Illegal immigrants probably don’t help much by competing for available housing because they pay their rents and don’t complain much making them much more desirable as tenants.
The thing with illegals is they get all sorts of aid to compete with Americans for housing. It is a huge scam, especially when it comes to Catholic Charities and Lutheran Services. They hold huge real estate assets, get tax dollars, and rent their own properties to “migrants” driving up costs. Americans are now second class citizens in our own country.
Also helps that the average illegal feels lonely unless they’re sharing a house with 10 others.
Worry Not—These kids will soon be in uniform, drafted to fight the New Axis (Russia-China-Iran-India) in places like Alaskan Nome Front, Vietnam Hanoi Front, The Polish Front, the Iraq Front and the Kiev Front. In their snow filled trenches and rat infested jungles they will become men and women.
