Horrifying moment train ploughs into truck carrying 134-foot concrete beam - causing THIRTEEN cars to derail - after it stopped on tracks in Tennessee

This is the terrifying moment a train smashed into a truck carrying a 134-foot concrete beam, causing a huge derailment and several injuries.

Miraculously, nobody was killed when the train ploughed into the truck in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Tuesday.

The semi-truck had crossed the tracks, but the trailer carrying the massive concrete truss bridge beam was still over the railroad as the driver waited for a traffic light to change.

Dramatic footage shows how the train's driver attempts in vein to slow down while ringing out his horn before the disastrous collision.

The train struck the trailer with enough force to cause three locomotives and 10 railroad cars to derail. The concrete beam was completely obliterated by the force of the smash, which also sparked a fire.

Photographs of the aftermath show the catastrophic pile-up of train cars strewn along the sides of the tracks.

Two Norfolk Southern Train employees were hospitalized with minor injuries, according to the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management.

You’re never supposed to stop on the tracks. You’re not even supposed to switch gears while crossing them just in case you can’t get it back in gear. After something like this the driver will need to find another line of work.

Nobody killed. That’s just as unbelievable as the wreck itself.

And that phone number is on a sign on both sides of that crossing.

What we have here is the classic definition of a BONEHEAD.

One phone call would have prevented this.

A set of rails that lower when a train is within a mile of the crossing would be a better idea. I thought this was a requirement for all crossings.

The law says trucks and buses must stop BEFORE all RR track crossings before proceeding if the way forward is clear.

Hence the bumper stickers we all see on the rear of all busses and most trucks.

“You don’t see colossal f-ups like this that often.”

I was southbound on I-5 last month when a rig like this jackknifed putting the beam across all southbound lanes. Took them hours to get rigs to the site capable of moving the beam.

That oversize load would have had guide vehicles front and rear. Where were they and who was in command of the load?

He hasn't been in America long. He's not with the program yet.

In messyco, all the lines on the road do is point them in the right direction. He hasn't had time to acclimatize to our laws.

This is why high-speed passenger rail requires its own railway with no road grade-crossings.

Operation of passenger trains at over 90 mph on our existing railways would lead to catastrophes.

Actually, the correct formula is more like P=mv, P being equal to momentum. F=ma does not apply, because (assumedly) there was little or no acceleration/deceleration of the train. F=ma is meant to determine the acceleration required to alter the path of an object. At least that is the way I understand it.

I went and found a usable link to the video that does not involve getting caught in java script hell.

I didn't see the part in the article where the driver was from "messyco" or from anywhere else.

This case is more complicated than most. I used to pull these.

#1 I do not see a pilot car for what should be an OVERSIZED load

#2 The tractor and trailer are not marked as an OVERSIZED load

There is fault with the driver and possibly with the company for not being in compliance— the pilot car should have blocked traffic so that the truck could proceed: but the driver was responsible for scanning ahead to see if there was enough space for him to cross.

Every time I see or hear of a truck or car vs. train collision, I say “Well, the train has maintained its perfect unbeaten streak.

Now I have to change this. It’s now trains 1,000,000,000, and trucks 1.

Like the Washington Generals beating the Harlem Globetrotters.

Not all of them. I didn’t watch the video. But if they can fit on a 53’ trailer and not be overweight he’s good without the cars.

However, if he did need cars for whatever reason a whole bunch of folks better have insurance.
