“ was famous for that incredible play ”

He wasn’t famous for that play alone. He was famous for being a great running back.

In spite of all the greats that have come and gone, the Franco Harris / Rocky Bleier backfield remains one of the most potent in NFL history.

As a kid in the 70s, dad would take us to Steeler training camp in Latrine every summer. To a person, the players came across as very appreciative of their fans. Chuck Noll knew how to build a team, and while there were many great players, there were no prima donnas.

While I was sadly disappointed with Franco's political leanings late in life, I think him for the many dear childhood memories and lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship.

RIP #32

Recall that play sitting and watching on Grandads floor with 6-8 cousins out in west Texas. RIP Franco.

I briefly met Franco while boarding an airplane in the late 1990’s. He was kind enough to share a few moments with my family and seemed to be a genuinely good guy.

Watching that replay on YouTube, it's amazing how prehistoric that footage looked and how tinny the sound quality was.

Yet back then, this was state of the art TV technology.

Franco Harris was a great player. He was also a businessman after football. As a fan of the Steelers (and Penn State) he was wonderful. RIP...

Those were the days and that was my team. After football went free agency, I lost interest. The Steelers would never be a dynasty again.

Best NFL team in the history of football. The 70s Steelers.

I was an original member of Franco's Italian Army {I was the medic} and my brother in law jumped off of the dugout and ran into the end zone to congratulate Franco and got knocked down into the end zone mud {from the baseball infield} and he never got his coat cleaned nor wore it again.

We met Franco for several events, good guy, giant lib.

Since I am only a half dago, I could not be a founder, {it's a bent nose tradition from Sicily} but our group's 8 seats were directly in front of Tony Stagno and Al Vento so we all were part of the original Army.

Great times, since the Steelers had never won anything in their 40 years of existence, this was a new and fantastic experience for Steeler fans.

The excitement within the entire area was unlike anything, ever in local pro sports and will never be duplicated.

RIP Franco.

I remember vividly watching the game as a 13 year old kid, in the comfort of the family living room on color TV. I didn't care who won or lost, but was thoroughly entertained by the game.

Right before the Immaculate Reception play, I had a premonition that something big was about to happen. Turns out that vision was correct.

I attended a Monday Night football game in Houston between the Oilers and Steelers in 1979. The list of NFL greats playing that night are two numerous to list.

This is a great field view of the play...note the block that sprang him, after he caught the ball
