A gunman opened fire on roadside assistance workers after they were unable to repair his broken-down vehicle in Gurnee Saturday afternoon, police said.
The Gurnee Police Department responded around 3 p.m. Saturday to the area of Olive Garden, 5590 Northridge Drive in Gurnee, for shots fired.
Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a man had called for roadside assistance after getting a flat tire.
Gaylor said the workers were unable to repair the vehicle. An argument ensued between the workers and the man.
The male suspect fired two rounds from a handgun at the workers.
He quickly fled the scene in a friend’s vehicle, Gaylor said.
The fleeing vehicle was described as a newer model blue Jaguar SUV, which was driven by a woman.
There were no reported injuries and Gaylor called it “an isolated incident.”
Gaylor said police are currently working to locate the fleeing vehicle, the female driver and the male suspect.

Did they know he was a gun man when they tried to help him? Or only afterwards?

In all fairness if roadside assistance couldn’t fix a flat tire I might be tempted let off a couple of rounds myself.
They couldn’t fix a flat? No spare?

If the flat was due to a severely damaged tire and the spare was missing or flat....
Maybe they stole the car and it had lug nut locks.
Why?
It is not necessarily their fault.
Last time I got road side assistance they discovered that the rim on my spare tire would not fit on the truck. The place where I had bought the tire had sold me the wrong rim.
So I had to have it towed to the nearest garage where, for 11 bucks, they put my good tire on the appropriate rim.
I then took a trip to the place where I had purchased the spare and engaged in polite but firm conversation with the owner.
Should have overpowered him and given a fix-a-flat enema.
A friend and I once stopped to help someone with a flat. Their car had a lug nut lock which we couldn’t break loose. We tried so hard we actually broke the lug nut. At that point we had to give up. They thanked us for trying and called a tow truck.
Nice of them not to shoot at you.
If HIS car was a Jaguar, I think I see the problem...
I had the means to respond
The perp probably had those ridiculous spinnerz which are so popular with the type of person who would shoot someone there to help him.
I had to get a tow when I broke down near Portland Oregon. The tow truck drivers all wear bullet proof vests because of a certain demographic’s explosive violent behavior.
This incident shows the value of the AAA.

Wow. That was just a joke. In reality it’s very unlikely I would start shooting at the roadside assistance people.
