You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

Gotcha!!!!!

WPIX, a New York City TV station, used to broadcast the Yule Log with Christmas music in the background, for several commercial-free hours on Christmas Eve/Day.

And a Merry Christmas to you and all the other crypro-Friends on the thread.

Here’s the story (Wiki version) of the broadcast

Sorry, but you’ll have to click the link next to the light bulb. I can’t seem to get a direct link to the Wiki article.

WPIX used to be associated with the New York Daily News, for many years Americans largest circulation newspaper. It called itself "New York's picture newspaper", hence the PIX. (Get it.) Back in the day, my brother, not a professional photographer, witnessed a murder in a diner in Flushing owned by a Chinese-American. It was apparently a Chinese gang rub-out in broad daylight. He went to his car (before digital photography) and retrieved his camera. He sold the pictures to the Daily News.

"Leave the gun, take the egg roll." (Said no one, ever.)

I’m looking forward to it. I am really jealous that you get to post for Christmas Eve and Christmas this year. :)

I lived in Fun City from LaGuardia to Bloomberg. In the 60s and 70s I knew some tow (chase) truck drivers. They ALL carried Leica SLRs for just that reason. If it bleeds, it leads

Here in Cali we have the Santa Anas and nature (and government incompetence) provide the fuel.
