OpenAI: Prayer Warrior / Prayer Lists
Self and OpenAI ChatGPT | December 16, 2022 | DannyTN

Posted on 12/16/2022 5:46:18 AM PST by DannyTN

Below are a list of things to pray about that was generated by the OpenAI ChatGPT. I thought it did an amazing job generating the lists. I especially liked the tag line it put on many of the lists that there is no limit to what can be prayed for and the most important thing is to pray with a sincere heart. (The bot also says it doesn't know if God exists or if there is evidence that God exists.)

The prayer lists generated are also an example that as with many things, such as guns, music or role playing games, technology is a tool that can be used for good or evil.

I asked the chatbot for a list of things to pray about for my children, nation, world, church, community, military, things to be thankful for, and the people in my circles of influence that I should pray for. Feel free to add lists or items of your own.

I've had in the back of my mind building a PrayerBot. And I have mixed feelings about this. Tell me what you think.

The idea is that the bot would randomly generate prayers, following the outline of the Lord's prayer. It would select a couple of praises based on the Lord's many names and titles. It would include some thanksgivings from a list, It would include petitions from the lists below and anything else I might add. And it would send these prayers to a Text-to-Speech generator and say the prayers out loud in my home.

On the one hand, scripture says, When ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking” (Matthew 6:7, KJV). And having a computer pray, seems like it might cross that line. The last thing I want is to annoy the Lord, or create spam prayers.

But on the other hand, I'm not consistent in my prayer life. I don't have set prayer times. I tend to roll out of bed at the last moment and sign onto the computer and start my work day. And I'm distracted at night. I'm thinking this might be a way to add consistency and to make sure I cover all the bases. And I'm home most of the time, it's not like I'm turning the computer loose in an empty room to do it's thing.
