Very good YouTube 17 min. video from HistoryLegends on the ongoing battle in Bakhmut. They do an excellent job (complete with pictures and maps) to spell out the pros and cons for both sides in this fierce battle.
Also spells out KIA casualty figures for both sides to date in the Ukraine war. Over 100,000 KIA Ukrainians; 15,000 KIA Russians.
The presenter has a sense of humor and does a good job mimicking neocons complete with accents...:-)
CNN is not a reliable source, but occasionally, like a broken clock, they are right.
Info that I follow, from various geographical and geopolitical parts of the globe, in combination with my own assessment, has:
- KIA Putin forces and KIA Ukraine forces, each hovering around 68,500 (or less) as of last Saturday (since Feb. 2022) (”KIA” meaning literally at location of combat - not including “wounded, died later”);
- Ukraine public info (Aug., Sep., early Oct.) via video attempting to buck up morale, focused upon Ukraine success using drones for observation and some of those drones for small payload delivery. But that “loose lips” information HELPED Putin’s forces, as instruction, and Putin’s forces have used MANY more drones, recently, with greater success - particularly around Bahkmut, because of Putin’s Wagner Force being determined to “live” up to its “business reputation;”
- Ukraine forces of rural origin, have the greatest endurance but need rest, and Putin will try to exploit that;
- Ukraine forces that are new (esp. from urban areas), are shocked by introduction to high volume gunfire from Putin’s forces. Partly because, new guys are introduced in large enough numbers that do not find enough experienced veterans with them and others in support: especially behind them, when the action gets hot;
- Putin’s forces are still able to concentrate numbers of men, and both: lose numbers and replace numbers, of men. Putin’s forces continue to benefit from the influx of Hate America First Volunteers from around the globe (war fighters and propagandists). I am expecting Cubans in that mix. I expect Putin to stir up “the unrest” elsewhere.
Putin seems convinced that Hate America First will make brutal enforcement of Socialism, “popular” again on the shoulders of militarism.
A war of three:

My observation is that socialists are destructive and will inevitably tear each other, and themselves, apart.

KIA numbers for Russia have been disclosed by various sources repeatedly since September (including by the Russian Secretary of Defense Shoigu) and still one after another ignorant neocons step up and insist that the fact that they are a fraction of the Ukrainian KIA is in their words, “BS”

In Moscow’s first update on casualty numbers in almost six months, Shoigu said 5,937 Russian soldiers had been killed since the start of the conflict.
President Vladimir Putin had ordered Russia’s first mobilisation since World War Two in an early-morning television address, saying the additional manpower was needed to win a war against not only Ukraine but also its Western backers.
According to Shoigu, Ukraine has suffered losses of 61,207 soldiers killed and 49,368 wounded during the war.

President of the European Commission has just come out in December and publicly in a speech admitted that over 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in action.
I think there is something about neocons that they think them making “declarations” makes something true. Pitiful.
Youtube says its still in Ukrainian hands. The Russians have had no success even with terrible loses in human wave attacks. The Russian conscript army is surrendering en Masse! The next move will be a Ukraine advance on Crimea. The war is won for the west!. Russia has lost this illegal war. Even if the Russian use Nukes, the Brave Ukrainians will not stop—they are able to stand the Radiation and keep fighting!

Except that they’ve demonized our side for so long that they can feed straight BS to the public and 90% of them will believe it (98% in Europe), even when confronted by people like us - these same people will say that they don’t trust the media, but then believe the media, every time. As to FR, the people supporting the Neocons and claiming Russia is losing know the truth - they’re just spamming us. Normally those people are booted off the site for that behavior, but I guess JR wants to keep them around for some reason.
Then the others here, who simply support Ukraine, almost always do due to some connection there (family, history there, etc.) - they’re players, so I don’t take them seriously. And the ironic thing is that in several years, they’ll be mad at Russia for taking so long to clean up the filth that had controlled Ukraine for the past 30 years.

Well, I am the kind of guy who doesn't attempt to second guess either side in this ridiculous boondoggle that our American government orchestrated.
I am sure neither of us can come close to knowing anything about this.
What makes me sure we haven't a clue about this is the video we have all seen of our United States Senators, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and Amy Klobuchar talking to Ukrainian soldiers with their President Poroshenko in 2016, telling them they will fight Russia in 2017 with the blessings and support from the United States?
It didn't go as they planned when Hillary Clinton didn't win the election. President Trump prevented it from happening until the Democrats cheated to get him out of the White House.

Speak for yourself, but if you really believe that you can't "come close to knowing anything about" the war in Ukraine then why do you waste time posting about it? Since you believe you can't know anything about it your opinions and thoughts are just whatever feelings and emotions you have at the moment, or some kind of delusions or fantasies.
You also have no idea how or what caused the war, as you have admitted, so your opinion that the US government orchestrated the war is just another fantasy. And it sounds like one, since it relies on the US government being some kind of super powerful organization that pulls the strings of other governments, including Russia, from behind the scenes. Do you also believe in the Illuminati and aliens?
My comment does not need backed up because anyone with any partiality knows the Russians have lost way more than 15,000. The confirmed Russian equipment losses in the thousands alone point to a much much higher figure.
This is the equivalant of someone saying the Holocause was a hoax. You don’t even bring out the facts because the person saying it is beyond all reason to argue with.
