Dan Lauria To Play Tip O’Neill In Ronald Reagan Biopic

Dan Lauria will play former Speaker of the House Thomas “Tip” O’Neill in the upcoming biopic Reagan.

He’ll play opposite Dennis Quaid, who plays the 40th president.

In a statement, director Sean McNamara said, “He and Dennis have the chemistry needed to portray Reagan and O’Neill as two politicians who were respectful adversaries.”

In Washington, the 1980s friendship between Reagan and O’Neill has long been viewed as a contrast to recent decades, as partisan rifts have gotten more personal.

the 1980s friendship between Reagan and O’Neill

It was fake. O'Neill stabbed him in the back.

In the era in which we live history must be rewritten to conform to the “standards” and agenda of the present IMHO.

I think the corporate leaders want a “moderate” and “stable” society with no disputes so that business can thrive so this product of big money and big business entertainment is almost doomed to convey that message.

He’ll always be the dad from Wonder Years to me.

I also remember him from a NCIS episode.

I just thought about Tip O’Neill last night. What a weird coincidence to see him mentioned today.

We’ll see. Jon Voight is in the film, and he’s a conservative so one might hope that as a conservative he’d decline to participate in a Reagan-bashing project.

That’s Jon Voight, the actor, by the way. Not John Voight the periodontist.

I recently saw two films based on historical events. “The Darkest Hour” was about Winston Churchill and “I Heard the Bells,” which is in current release, is about how the poet Henry Longfellow came to write the lyrics to the hymn “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.” Both are fairly historically accurate, save for some dramatic license, neither has nude scenes, sex scenes or profanity, and “The Darkest Hour” even features a cat! So good films based on historical events are still being made.

Lauria (the dad on ‘The Wonder Years’), was a USMC captain and actively supports veteran causes. Star Dennis Quaid and other actors such as Jon Voigt indicate this won’t be typical Leftist bilge. No guarantee, but deserves a chance

It will be.

How will they get Dan Lauria to look like an iron bar hard, lifeless shark eyed, union organizer like Tip O'Neill?

I was in a meeting room with one of those guys when I was around twenty and he looked at me like he knew that I was the company spy that actually I was.   He also knew that there was nothing I could do to stop him.   He passed out the cards and a couple of weeks later, I got my pink slip when the union reclassified my position.   The company went bankrupt and shut down a year or two later.   They had never reached one quarter of the production they had before the union took over.   And our small rural community had a lot more people on the dole.

Yeah, I know Lauria. He’s a garden variety Hollywood Dem and about as politically deep as a puddle. His redeeming feature is that he helps out in young actor classes.

Tip” O’Neill was not respectful, he would accept the invitations but never had the decency that Reagan showed him.

Loved Dan on Cagney and Lacey where he played Detective Dupnik in several episodes. He was great in the show and did the Wonder Years right after that.
