One of the great (and true) legends of rock-and-roll is that the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson spent years idolizing the work of Phil Spector but also fearing that Spector wanted to kill him. Brian was paranoid, but Spector ultimately did become a homicidal maniac. It’s like the saying goes, just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean that they’re not out to get you.

I guess he wasn’t paranoid.

I read somewhere, Wilson’s favorite tune was “Be My Baby”, his daughter said he would play it over and over, sometimes a hundred times a day. Hopefully with headphones, but I dunno.

Blonde to Spector: “ Call me. Not.”

On arrival, the band were welcomed by Spector. “He answered the door to his house with a [Colt] .45 in one hand and a bottle of Manischewitz wine in the other hand,” Stein said.
It's hard to believe anyone would actually want to swig Maniscewitz, except, maybe, a sugar addict? With so many decent kosher wines in LA, that seems like a real stretch. Did Spector even keep kosher? And - Was it really a Colt .45? Does this fellow know guns so well? Was it a 1911 or a revolver? And - with which hand did Spector answer the door?
