Most likely, yes the threats they speak of are probably real. The whole “great reset” evil is real. The Bible has warned us of this and we know it is coming. The only thing we do not know is “WHEN.” For that we have to trust God that He is in control.

On a second level, Revelation is a universal, metaphorical message to Christians of every age.
As for not being able to buy or sell without the "mark of the beast," that's a reference to Roman coins, which bore the "mark" of Nero and other emperors.
But the "mark of the beast" is also a timeless metaphor for anyone who rejects Christ in any age.
666 is pretty specific though. It refers to Nero.

The mark is specifically stated to be on the right hand or forehead.
A coin with Nero’s impression on it does not qualify.
