"To complicate the matter, state legislators in California are now discussing retroactive taxes as well as an exit tax for rich residents of the state who leave California for another state. They probably still want the same socialist garbage but for cheaper.

“The bee has now 6 episodes of CA couple moving to TX, and the last and final in the series is by far the best, the couple moves back to CA:
0:00 / 5:27 Californians Move to Texas FINALE | Episode 6: Return To California

They need to turn that series into a full length movie. I loved every episode, but you are correct in that the final one was the best. Timpanni has become a bad-a$$ gunslinger. LOL!
Based on the snarkiness of some of my Scotts Valley neighbors as we prepared to move, My unscientific opinion is that they wished they could leave, too.
As we were leaving CA, driving down Hwy 1 past Santa Cruz in our Ryder rental truck (U-Haul couldn’t supply a truck in time, due to one-way outflux), some d|ckhead in a MBZ SUV cut me off then waved goodbye.
I’ll never forget that.

Same ole, same ole. California lost this battle over 20 years ago. I seriously considered a job offer in California back about 1995 when I was out of a job due to Clinton’s defense cutbacks. I choose to take a different job in Utah.
One of the reasons was then California taxed the retirement incomes of residents that had moved out of state. IIRC, once you filed on state income tax year, California felt they could tax your retirement income even if you moved from the state. They lost in court.
“Looks like some of those leaving California are either idiots or masochists. Trading California for Oregon or Washington seems misguided.”
Their work is done in Califonio, it’s time to move to the next assignment.
