Order with GE (General Electric) paid for and told it will arrive 6-12 weeks. It's been 5 months. No end in sight. Should I file with the Attorney General?

I made an order with GE August 5. Paid for a combo microwave/oven. Mine is 12 years old and the microwave stopped working. I had the tech out and he told me he can repair it but when the stove goes they do not make parts for it anymore. Suggested I might just get a new one.

My kitchen has it such that my old combo microwave/oven is set in a cabinet that has no room for expansion on either side. Hence I am forced to buy the only combo microwave/oven that fits, and that is GE's product.

So I ordered it. They make you pay up front. The order for that particular oven is on back order. Every month I get an email, "Hello .......,

We apologize for the delay on your appliance order and any inconvenience this may cause.

Rest assured, we are doing all we can to get your order shipped as quickly as possible and will contact you as soon as we are able to schedule a delivery date.

Sincerely, The GE Appliances Store team

I get these at the beginning of every month and have since August 2022 when I ordered it.

I have called twice, am put on hold for 2 hours, second time robot informs me to press one and they will call me back. I will not lose my place online.

First call last month the girl on the phone said it is looking like it will be another month. She is not privy to any information as to why it takes so long but back order products do take this long routinely. There is nothing more she can tell me, like who is working on it, if it is being worked on, what is the hold up.

Second call, same info, but added it could take up to a year, these things do and have and maybe even longer. I told her my oven still works but if it goes out I have no way to cook until I get that oven. It was the same answer, she has no way to access the reason why, when it will be delivered, what is the hold up, blah blah blah.

So my question to FR is, should I file a complaint with the Attorney General or will that just create a problem for me? They could drop me. I have researched all other companies that make these things, all new oven microwave/combos are 33 inches or larger. Mine needs to be 30 inches. The cabinet on one side ends with my cooktop and tile right up to the microwave/combo, the other side is a hall.

What do you need an oven for?

Crickets and centipedes are dried and don’t require cooking.

Trying to exceed your CO2 limit?

Why do you want what you don’t need?

What if I want to heat up one of those new Cricket Hot Pockets?

I've had pretty good luck with the
Sharp carousel convection microwaves.
I've had two of them. The first one got zapped by a
lightening strike - so it wasn't a 'quality of item' issue - just bad luck.

They worked great.

But invest in a surge protector.
Good Luck!

We had same issue with ge. Don’t buy separate units the micro always quits first. Get free standing. Micro and wall oven. Cheaper.

Yep. I had a issue at Home Depot with a cashier refusing to do a tax-exempt purchase, saying they I did one just a week ago. I showed them the company credit card, and even though the internal tax-id number matched the card, they refused to click “ok” to remove the sales tax. I pointed to the posted policy on the register, that I followed exactly.

I ask for a manager, they said they were the cashier/front end supervisor. I asked for the MOD for the store, they said they wouldn’t call them. I ask for their name, told them I would call corporate and walked out.

The Store Manager called me a day later, asked some questions, what time, register, items I wanted to buy, etc. A few days later the District Manager called, said to go to the store as ask for the MOD. They had a box with all the items I was going to purchase, about $80 worth handed me that and a $50 gift card and said I was all set.

Never had a problem with that cashier again.

I googled “Microwave 30” and got several responses back.

I’d order from another manufacture and cancel this order. Unless you’re under a warranty or something.

It’s not just a microwave it’s a microwave oven combo.

Do a general search from all online entities. You should find SOME-thing!

Zero-COVID lockdowns, riots/civil unrest and then a slow boat from China...might be awhile longer on that order.

This is a good case for using a credit card to pay.

If you did, dispute the charge. I don’t think it’t too late, and you will win.

Then, look for a used one, or just look at the dimensions of other available ones.

I just ordered a French Style Refrigerator from Lowes. They changed the deluvery date after the order, and when it was finally delivered there was a dent in the freezer drawer front.

They told me to return it or take $400 off the price. It was very small, behind the handle so I took the money.

They hire independent delivery people.

I was at Lowes....Wouldn't give me a refund on something I never received. Went through the same routine as you did. I left and the whole store knew what was going on (I do get loud). I went directly home and within 1/2 an hour, I got a phone call to come in and they would give me a CASH refund.

When you're right...you're right. On another note...I'm 78...and you can bet your booties that I was treated like some crazy old lady that just doesn't get it. That ignorant clerk will get hers someday.

I found that going right to my bank about the charge is the way to go...if they won’t cooperate.

The “excuse” the cashier gave was that in something like 40ish days they were going to change the process, but if you hadn’t got set up for the new method yet the old way would still work. I told the cashier that the it isn’t that date yet, the change was just announced like 10 days prior, and I wasn’t the accountant who handles all that but I had notified them to fix it with HD.

I’ve done that. The second I went over the documentation I had, and mentioned the word chargback, all of a sudden someone was available to fix the issue. Strange.

I just got up and measured my oven and it’s 30 in and above it a separate GE microwave which is 30 in. So if yours is a combination, would it be possible to get them separately and maybe do a little cosmetic work on the wall between? The two of them looks like about 15 in exposure on mine between the top of the stove controls and the bottom of the microwave

I had to wait about 5 months for an appliance that I had to pay upfront for. This was near the beginning of the shutdown. Finally I told the vendor (whom I have done business with for 20 years) to either refund me immediately and then charge me later when the item finally arrived, or refund monthly interest on the payment. I had my item within days.

I don’t mess around with large companies anymore. I sue them pro se in small claims courts. My legal fees are zero. The large company has to spend thousands.

Recently a large company over-charged me (on AMEX) $450.00 and basically just said fu via the no response game they like to play.

I sued which they can’t ignore. In several months, I cashed their settlement check for over $1,600.00.

Small claims courts in Texas used to be a limit of $5,000 for your base claim. Now it’s $20,000.00.

By the way, this house is 20 years old and we just had the GE microwave replaced for the 4th time.

The local family owned appliance store we use has their own service people and because we have all our appliances from them we’ve gotten to know the service guy over the years. He said three to four years is now the average lifespan for these above oven microwaves. And he said it really didn’t make a difference on the brand. My daughter said that we may as well think of it as a $100 a year service fee to own the microwave. Be a lot funnier if it weren’t so true.
