If Elon Musk truly believes that Twitter is a front in the “battle for the future of civilization,” he has a chance to prove it.
The Biden administration has already threatened to investigate Musk on multiple occasions, which isn’t surprising considering its unprecedented antagonizing about free expression.
Democrats such as Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts have promised to create new “rules” governing discourse on the private social media platform. (Remember when leftists were pretending to be fans of free-association rights?)
Hillary Clinton’s approach has been more sweeping, calling for the European Union to create a technocratic speech regime to govern American companies to “bolster global democracy before it’s too late.”
And Europe has answered the call. Thierry Breton, the EU’s commissar of “internal market,” says: “Twitter will have to implement transparent user policies, significantly reinforce content moderation and protect freedom of speech, tackle disinformation with resolve, and limit targeted advertising.”
Reuters news agency notes: “Breton told Musk he must adhere to a checklist of rules, including ditching an ‘arbitrary’ approach to reinstating banned users and agreeing to an ‘extensive independent audit’ of the platform by next year.”
Must he?
For one thing, the EU’s demands are in direct conflict with each other. The state can’t protect “freedom of speech” and compel private institutions to “tackle disinformation” and “reinforce content moderation.” Speech is not free if it needs the state’s imprimatur. And American companies should not function under the authoritarian diktats of the Chicoms or the EU nomenklatura.
It’s helpful to remember that the European Union does not share Musk’s liberal conception of “free speech” as an inalienable right, but rather it views open discourse as a government-provided privilege.
Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights begins by promising “the right to freedom of expression,” but soon warns that speech is contingent on the vagaries, conditions, and restrictions of “national security,” “territorial integrity,” the prevention of “disorder or crime,” and “health or morals.”
Or, in other words, the state arbitrarily can impose limits at will—which sounds a lot like the contemporary American Left’s emerging position on free speech.
Nearly every censor in the history of mankind has argued that speech should be curbed to fight existential threats to society. And nearly every censor in history, sooner or later, expands the threat to undercut the rights of their political opponents....
Communists and socialists are going to censor. Their imaginary reality requires lies to survive.

Some of the media wants you to believe that Jack Dorsey wasn't kept in the loop on the shenanigans at Twitter. I highly doubt that. He was the CEO for cripes sake. He knew exactly what was going on, but like Barack Obama in his January 5th, 2017 Oval Office meeting with Susan Rice, James Comey, Assistant Attorney General Sally Yates, and Joe Biden, where they discussed siccing the FBI on General Flynn...Obama okayed the attack, but then said he didn't want to be kept in the loop, because he wanted to be able to claim "plausible deniability" if the shit ever hit the fan. I'm betting Dorsey okayed the attacks on Conservatives. He just didn't want it to come back and bite him in the ass, so he pulled an Obama.
This is exactly haw fascism works. The only difference between fascism and communism is that fascism allows private ownership of property and business. However if you want to stay in business you must consent to be a total tool of the state. Hence China = fascist, no longer communist. And the EU longs to get there. This is as clear an example as I can cite.
No different than China in intent.
Dear EU officials:
If you mess with my business I will seek redress in American courts to the full extent possible.
Trade treaties entered into the US government that you think enable you to trample on Amendment I free speech are subject to suspension and voiding.
I have the financial power and full determination to defend the fundamental basis of democracy - free speech.
Our Supreme Court loves Amendment I. It hates meddling tyrants.
This is going to get very interesting. It was hard to fathom the heights of the despair shown by the left at the mere consideration of Musk taking over Twitter.
It almost goes without saying at this point, he’ll find Twitter has mechanisms for content to be tailored per country. He’ll find the correspondences of various EU country politicians doing exactly the same thing the FBI/D’s have.
I’m not sure how he can navigate the legal frameworks of some of these countries respective to free speech. It is going to be tough - but will be a good forum to challenge their laws and the underlying principles that require consideration, in open discussion.
Suppression of Free Speech is FASCISM. End of story.

Are three targeted ads not better than twelve ads that represent a near total waste of business money, viewer time and bandwidth?
Elon paid a low price for the treasure trove of DMs and other information. Just let the EU “leaders” find out that their private DMs will be released, their private DM photos will be released, and all of the emails they sent to Twitter management trying to suppress the free speech. I’d have it all done in a a giant data dump out to multiple torrents and shares. Tear them down hard.

I would look for Musk to hit the EU politicians and governments with the same kind of damning evidence he’s released on the US’s crooks. They are threatening a man who knows a lot of their dirty secrets, not smart, just arrogant, the usual for marxist bureaucrats.
