President Joe Biden’s one-time federal student loan debt relief program, which would forgive up to $20,000 in loans for federal borrowers, remains on hold after a federal district judge in Texas declared the program unconstitutional earlier this month. The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis issued a nationwide injunction barring the program days later. The whiplash leaves more than 26 million people who applied for relief —16 million of whom were already approved — caught in limbo about the future of their federal student loans. Those who were approved received notice from the Department of Education that their debt will be discharged “if and when we prevail in court." But no new applications are being accepted. Meanwhile, Biden announced on Tuesday that the emergency pause on student loan payments put in place during the pandemic would be extended to "no later than June 30, 2023" so borrowers would not resume payments while waiting for a decision from the Supreme Court on the matter.
I spoke to borrowers around the country, ages 24 to 61, about their financial plans now. Some people who had expected Biden’s program to forgive the remaining balance of their loan were frustrated that critical expenses they had been putting off — such as medical needs, saving for a home, retirement — will continue to be delayed. Some are looking for ways to not pay. Others are resigned to resuming payments until their debt is forgiven under another income-driven plan that cancels the remaining balance on a loan if it isn’t fully repaid at the end of the repayment period, such as Public Service Loan Forgiveness.

Whose fault is all this but those that took out the loans?
If the fed gov didnt back them and these were conventional loans thats exactly what would happen.
Your ‘beef’ is with the educational system that fleeced you in the first place.
I am crying deep tears....NOT.......
They borrowed the money. Now they, and not me, need to pay it back.
I’ll bet you if I spent one hour reviewing their life style and spending choices I could point out dozens of ways they could have paid down their student loans.
Want to bet 95% are buying $6.00 coffees, traveling for pleasure, spending on non-essentials etc etc?
Sorry, not sorry.
THIS!
This is nonsense. You can get an income driven repayment plan for student loans.
My kids all chose to go to community colleges and state universities and worked their way through college (one worked full time for two years between high school and college) so that they could graduate without any debt. Now I wonder if I should have encouraged them to borrow away so they could go to expensive private universities and live it up with most of their high school friends.
The word "repayment" is what the entitled snowflakes don't like. How DARE you suggest it?
He was actually pretty entertaining.☃️☃️☃️🍐
These people are living proof that having a college education does not always equate to having INTELLIGENCE.
These people let themselves down and blame literally “everything else” for their situation.
When they do good, where has my dividend payment been from them? When they do bad they expect me and everyone else to pay for THEIR bad personal financial decisions.
I paid my loans off. Now I have to pay millions of other peoples loans off, that they voluntarily signed a contract for? They decided to go to expensive schools, no one forced them to go there.
Its assinine.
I have had that same problem ever since I was about 15, and I didn't even take out a student loan. I might just have to wait until I can afford to.
It was single women most swayed by this, and the voting stats proved it. Younger, not married, holding 2/3 of college debt and in mostly low or worthless degrees, no husbank to pay their debt off for them.
It worked. Most young single women are liberal and have the above attributes. They like the idea of government bailout and telling them they are entitled to it.
These people haven’t made a loan payment in over two years. Now they are full of angst because they already had big steak dinners and bought expensive vacations with the money Brandon promised. No sympathy from this end of paradise.
It is a sad time when you have to explain that illegal immigration is against the law, that debts must be repaid, that men do not get pregnant or suckle babies (I’m not making this up).
Moving on to something more challenging.
Global Warming predicts mild winters. Climate Change explains extremely cold winter weather after the fact. They are not the same theory. Choose one, or the other, or neither. Don’t choose to believe both theories; that wouldn’t make sense.
Black Americans commit crimes disproportionately. It is not necessarily racist to arrest and convict Black Americans disproportionately. Black Americans are less likely to meet sensible lending standards. It is not necessarily racist to provide proportionately fewer loans to Blacks Americans.
Democrats blame everyone else for the sins of Democrats. That includes slavery, segregation, racism, disenfranchisement of Blacks, and racism. Just don’t fall for it.
The efficacy and safety of an experimental vaccine, such as the mRNA Wuhan virus vaccine, is initially unknown.
I didn’t pay the minimum so instead of taking 30 years it took 6 years. My daughter who is not paying her student loans castigated me for paying my loans and not taking her to Disney land. So I ruined her childhood.
How do you think they harvested addresses of good little democrats to send ballots to.Then they knew exactly where to go to pick them up.
How dumb are today’s college students? Apparently they are not smart enough to calculate loan payback time frames. Maybe they are just deadbeats trying to beat the system.
I have from time to time given thought to getting an 'advanced'
degree - but I have never been able to answer the 'Why?' question.
Yes - I continually learn new things that enable me to do what
it is that I do BETTER - but I don't feel the need for a degree for that.
I impress with my knowledge and skills, what I can do,
what I produce - not with a degree.
I'm a self-taught person. College technology curricula are almost always very dated.
I'm just a usually self-employed or freelance kind of guy.
This has it's drawbacks as well as benefits.
I'm just not a corporate 'hive-drone' - never have been.
I'm a pragmatic creative technology guy.
