Don't get even, get MAD
American Thinker ^ | 24 Nov, 2022 | Eli Friedman

It must become crystal clear to the Left that what goes around, comes around.

As Republicans prepare to take charge of the U.S. House of Representatives, it is important to recognize the sea change that has recently occurred in America. Things are fundamentally different now than they were just a little while ago and are unlikely to change back in the near future, if ever.

In international relations there are three ways countries interact with each other. Some are friendly, sharing common interests and goals. Examples include the United Kingdom and United States, the vaunted "special relationship." Others have little to do with each other and get along by minding their own business. Mexico and United States aren't particularly close, but more or less get along by ignoring each other. Then there are those whose relationships are defined by fear, who get along with the others because they are afraid of them. Our relationship with China for example, is significantly based on the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). It is this fear that keeps the Chinese under control, similar to the fear that kept the Soviet monster in check.

SNIP

Change began after the Second World War as divisions grew during the 60s and 70s culture revolution, but there was still a strong undercurrent of freedom, the tacit agreement to live and let live as much as possible. Today, these relationship paradigms are gone. We no longer agree on basic issues nor will the Left tolerate peaceful disagreement, but the relationship of fear has yet to take its place. Oh, there is fear, but it is one-sided. The right is afraid of the Left but the Left laughs off the right.

Yeah investigations......that’ll do the trick.

From the article comments:
“For starters, Kevin should NOT disband the Jan 6 committee, but restaff it with those who will use the framework the dems set up to NOW look into the other side of the story. Including if there was collusion by Justice dept in setting it up, why the police waived people into the Capitol, why the 4 police left the scene one minute before Ashley was shot, why Pelosi did not activate the Natl Guard PRIOR to the event as it appears she had been warned, and mainly, find the collusion that set this all up with the purpose of disinfranchising, even demonizing, half of the voting population.”
If there is no J6 rebuttal committee to expose what really happened in the Democrat’s J6 coup, then McCarthy is still working for the other side.

Oh, there is fear, but it is one-sided. The right is afraid of the Left but the Left laughs off the right.

The Left laughs off the right.

They do so because they have been in control of the information flow.

That is changing, especially with Elon Musk transforming Twitter into a free speech engine.

Agreed, 100%. But McCarthy lacks the cajones to really put the screws to the evil Dems. He is a more telegenic and somewhat nicer version of Paul Ryan (spit). The Freedom Caucus needs to pressure him, and so does the public. Imagine 10,000 calls a day from FReepers to his office? That would have an effect - and we need to start right now.

I prefer a strongly worded letter, followed by a speech full of huff 'n puff.

Just so long as there's no action...ever! That's the GOP way.

Now some will claim (I’m looking at you, National Review et al.) that the people want “bipartisanship” and “getting along” and perhaps they do, perhaps they don’t. It doesn’t matter, because it’s not what the Republic needs right now. This Republic desperately needs the scales rebalanced. As it is clear that we cannot get along with our fellow Americans on the Left as we have in the past, this new paradigm, the “fear factor,” must be introduced or this country is finished as we know it. The GOP must proceed full speed ahead with impeachments, investigations, and subpoenas, whatever it takes to give the left a good taste of their own medicine.

“It must become crystal clear to the Left that what goes around, comes around. “

Their goal is to have so much control that there is no “comes around”.

A taste of medicine is inadequate

The left must be destroyed. The left is America’s existential enemy

There can be no co existence any longer

That is absolutely what they should do! I’d love to see some of the choice cuts from the thousands of hours of J6 surveillance video that the communists have refused to release, among other things.

I think the past two elections have shown that the republican’ts need to go full scorched earth on the leftists. Anything less will invite more of the same from them, or just serve as more proof that the republican’ts are part of the problem (which most of them are).

I think the comparison to international relations is fundamentally flawed. Internal civil disputes are always bloodier, less restrained, more personal affairs. They’re based on grievances that can’t be mollified. And both sides view the conflict as existential so fear won’t work, since both sides believe if they do nothing, they will still be wiped out any way.

The left keeps coming back for the ‘other half’. There’s nothing here for them. Ex. They want to reform immigration? Why give them more laws that no one will follow anyway? I say we do the same as in Irish Democracy. The left will fail if it is dependent on their base to deliver. They’re not that smart and they’re very lazy! Just ask them how they ‘ create value’ by doing their job. Too many ‘rentiers’ capturing unearned value

Secession. It’s time.

This time we should kick them out, like we did to the Tories in 1783.
