DOHA, Qatar -- Weston McKennie got into the patriotic spirit, dying his hair red, white and blue ahead of the United States' World Cup opener against Wales.
The 24-year-old midfielder from Fort Lewis, Washington, showed up with the new colors for Sunday night's training session. McKennie, who plays for Juventus in Italy, previously had a streak of blonde in his hair.
The Americans open the World Cup on Monday night after failing to reach the 2018 tournament.

Using the colors of the American flag instead of the Homosexual flag will be construed as a “hate crime” by some.
I hear their jerseys have the USA flag in LGBT rainbow colors.

I’m sure there will be many here on FR that will just trash soccer. I’ve never understood trashing something others obviously enjoy just because they don’t get it. It shows no class at all.
What is odd is that the patriots on FR that trash the sport don’t seem to realize it is the one sport where ALL FELLOW AMERICANS can go to a bar and cheer for a common team. It doesn’t happen with the usual league sports where one city gets to win.

Ice hockey and basketball used to be the two Olympic sports that ALL Americans could cheer for.
That was back in the day when USA Olympic teams were all amateurs or college seniors playing against the international onslaught of Olympic Professionals.
Soccer is the only sport in world history where they train players how to fake injuries.

I’m not sure that was “soccer fans” specifically, but I think there’s difference between trashing a sport and trashing a league. I think most criticisms of the NFL aren’t about the game vs how it conducts itself.
Very few do that. Some cultures do consider it as part of the game. Not most.
English football doesn’t and you can be carded for obvious dives.
Looking forward to a great month of football. England now on cruise control. Senegal-Netherlands should be a good game. Hopefully, US gets of to a good start. A win today should set the table to advance. A loss would be a disaster.
