Back in the 70’s, we were pretty poor so Mom used to get canned vegetables a lot. I’ll never forget her opening a can of spinach one time, and there was a big fat caterpillar in it. Of course, it was dead, but still…so gross. I’ve never eaten canned spinach since that day, and truthfully, once I got on my own, I rarely eat any canned vegetables. I dislike them very much. Give me fresh if possible, and if not, frozen. I will eat canned beans some, well, and canned tomatoes like Rotel.

I don’t buy meat in chubs. If I can’t see it, I’m not buying it.

In the late 90's I used to do electronics work on a certain sausage company "...shire". The tubs of meat blend would be staged near the stuffing areas. I had a probe in the stuffing pipe programmed to detect non-metal contaminants. Usually it would be chunks of wood, plastic, or cardboard. I kept getting calls for the probe going off falsely. (It ejects about five pounds into a reject bucket) Inspecting the material it looked like meat but wasn't. It was chewing gum.
During sanitation room washes I installed hidden cameras pointing at the staging area tubs. It took about an hour of recording time. It was the area supervisor throwing her chewing gum in the meat. (Food production rules ban any buttons, gum, mints, medicine, food stuffs, etc...)
She got arrested. The automated systems are truly amazing at foreign material detection all the way thru every process until it's packaged.

I worked there a long long time ago, and I suspect they are almost completely manned by illegal aliens nowadays. I don’t know for sure, though.

Yes. Even fake nails, nail polish, jewelry, no pockets above waist level. Hair nets. Beard nets.

My guess would be the overhead mirror spheres. No glass is allowed near food production until packaging. They have those plastic mylar mirrors in every room and hallway. The shiny coating laminated onto the sphere starts to peel off after a lot of time. If that material fell into the process ot would do exactly what’s described. However, there are optical and texture probes that should pick it up. But skill levels of the people in the industry have been spiraling down for about 15 years now.

That's best. I raised our own Pigs, beef, lamb, and chicken, during our full house family years. It's just me and the wife now.
In the 60s and 70's our town had farmers who had delivery trucks and customer routes. Fresh beef, eggs, poultry, cheese, produce, but the grocery store chains paid off local politicians to ban them. My grandmother was devastated. She hated grocery stores. Every couple weeks after the farmers were banned from delivery sales I had to take her to the butcher, the cheese shop, the bakery, the spice shop, and such. No "one stop shopping".
