This should be required reading for the GOP leadership, all GOP candidates, campaign managers, and field operatives going forward. Like it or not ballot harvesting is not going away anytime soon and we need to compete on this playing field. The first step in making policy is to win elections. Ballot harvesting is dirty and distasteful but it needs to be done.

A democrat strategist flat out admitted how mail in voting pads democrat voting totals without outright fraud. Basically, imagine super liberal mom. Mom is a diehard democrat and lives and breathes politics. She has a husband and two college age kids. Neither of them are politically engaged in the least and would never even bother to vote. So up until mail in voting became a thing, mom cast her vote for democrats and nobody else in the household voted. But now, not only moms ballot come in the mail, but her husband and two kid's ballots do too. She of course fills out all four, voting straight democrat and sends all four-back in.

Now what she is doing may be technically illegal, but there is zero chance to ever prove it. Dad and kids might not really care, but they would certainly claim they voted if ever asked so mom wouldn't get in trouble. So now one democrat vote has suddenly become four democrat votes. Now multiply that by 100,000 in that state and democrats have suddenly gained 300,000 votes they wouldn't have had before.

It will go away if republicans master the practice. The more republicans do it and win from it, the more democrats will come to hate it. Of course, not without first a lot of complaining, hand wringing, arrests and congressional investigations by democrats. And lots of whining and “threat-to-democracy” hand wringing by their friendly media too. Some other tactic will be found.

cut it off at the source. Mail-in ballots need to be curtailed. Since Covid, mail-in ballots are being mailed out to almost everyone. This needs to stop. Mail-in ballots should only be available to those with extenuating circumstances.

The California GOP figured this out quickly after 2008. Why the rest of the country’s GOP hasn’t gotten in board is baffling.

How about the unionized caregiver at a large nursing facility? Offers to help a few of the “less aware” residents fill out their mail in ballots, presto, a big stack of Dem votes. Probably not significant in the strongholds for either side but enough maybe to tip some elections in the purple states.

Agree it is dirty, distasteful, and probably borderline illegal but as the article points out it is not going anywhere.

I would not advocate illegal practices but if it’s legal you can’t concede these types of votes and win close elections.
