The driver, Nicholas Joseph Gutierrez, 22, is now charged with attempted murder of a peace officer and other charges are pending, the sheriff’s department said.
Bond was set at $2 million.
Security camera video obtained by KTLA shows the SUV veering into the opposite lanes of travel and directly into a group of 75 recruits from the STARS Center Academy who were jogging on Mills Avenue around 6:30 a.m. The vehicle stopped after hitting a light pole.
A total of 25 recruits were injured, five of them critically.
The recruits immediately rendered aid to their injured colleagues while they waited for paramedics to arrive.

One report I watched said he seemed to be under the influence of something & from the video of his field sobriety test, it looked like that could be the case.

He was going 30-40 mph when he hit the recruits according to the LASD. Otherwise, I believe there would have been fatalities.

They were running on a street in formation. I hope the trainers re-think that and let recruits spread out. You can’t stop folks from being crazy but you can make yourself less of a (mass) target.
So will all of the rhetoric about police hunting down and murdering minorities and defunding them be blamed for this act of violence? I didn’t think so.
Back in the day, all we really had to worry about was ‘Jody’ stealing the girl that we left back home. ;)

Hopefully he will be dealt with in prison. You don’t run over all those recruits and not have consequences.

Only a few years ago a few blocks away two suspect were pulled over by LASD, the suspects exited their vehicle and opened up with AR on the unit. One deputy was shot in the head and survived...They eventually captured the suspect in Mexico.
