I'm posting a very rare vanity (in chat) about something that looks very unusual to me. I heard a very loud, low flying aircraft over my house a little while ago. I went out to see what it was but missed it. I'm surrounded by trees and have a relatively short window to see aircraft especially to the south where this one was. I looked at Flightradar24 but the aircraft was not visible on the website. This got my curiosity up and upon looking around on Flightradar24 I found a parade of KC 135 Stratotankers coming out of Oklahoma City flying southeast apparently into Florida. There are currently 6 of them in the air, but one is just a short distance from Oklahoma city indicating it just took off. I'm posting this to see if anybody has any insight as to why this might be going on, especially on a holiday.
Something about lips and ships.
At Offutt they were flying all day everyday.
Those nose wheel landings were tough on the equipment but they took it.
Help! I’m stuck in a loop and can’t get out.
1. Tankers flying
2. See #1 (”See above.”)
Maybe they are filled with votes to make DeSantis’ win not so large?
“Something about lips and ships.”
Yeah, I’m seeing this on 100% public website. I think confidentiality is pretty much out the window.
Fuel delivery into bases in the storm area?
Likely returning to MacDill after Hurricane Nicole. MacDill has two squadrons (63rd and 91st).
There’s a football game somewhere that getting its paid-up DoD flyover
Could they be headed for a Veteran’s Day air show? There’s one here today, maybe one on Florida, too. Ah, yes there is at least one:
That’s MST likes the answer. Never mind my air show theory.
That’s a good theory.
Ugh. Spellchecker. Most likely the answer.
One of them is over the Gulf of Mexico apparently going to Tampa.
There’s another base there, it could be for routine servicing.
They do that for troop transport planes at our local airport. They even service airplanes for other countries’ militaries.
“Likely returning to MacDill after Hurricane Nicole. MacDill has two squadrons (63rd and 91st).”
That makes total sense. Thank you very much for a rare, concise answer to a legitimate question.
I see them on Flightradar24 all the time. Training fighters as well.
There were 6 of them. Too many for an airshow or scheduled maintenance on one time. T.B. Yoits had the answer in comment #8:

Oh you’re no fun, anymore.
Agree. See my #11 (and correction at #13).

I do to, but I’ve never seen six of them on the same flight path on a holiday before. T.B. Yoits had the answer in comment #8
