A bit of a bright spot. Republican Kean is expected to defeat incumbent democrat Malinowski flipping New Jersey Congressional District 7 to Red.

The Hill & Bloomberg have called the race for Kean with 95% reporting. Nothing official yet.

(R) Kean - 153,082 (52.3 %)

(D) Malinowski - 139,404 (47.7 %)

Hopefully this holds but Kean has a pretty decent lead. Finally some sanity has returned to central NJ and carpetbagger Malinowski can go back to wherever he came from.

Kean has name recognition.

Has he been declared or is it just expected?

The district was redrawn to make it more Republican — while making neighboring districts more solidly “blue.” Even with this win, there are only 3 GOP representatives out of 12 in the state.

I met his pop once, in the 80’s when he was a good governor ( no tax on beer!) a real genuine nice guy. He invited the train crew into the special rail car for sandwiches and drinks at an event celebrating extension of electrified line to Jersey shore.

Yea the redrawn district did help but I think the democrats are a little surprised this morning that they could not carry Somerset County which was trending “d” in 2020. Actually I was surprised that Malinowski got as many votes as he did in Hunterdon. I guess a significant chunk of people who moved out there in the last 2 years brought their cr*ppy politics with them.

Bottom line though…… 3 seats is better than 2 and we should be proud that NJ helped send Nancy Pelosi to the minority.

Your comment about Hunterdon is accurate. I’ve lived here 38 years and can attest to the political shift. Not sure Kean kas won yet but it’s likely.

The local elections here always go Republican, but the national candidates often don’t.

Lots of green sentiment here.
