LOVE THY NEIGHBOR
The documentary “1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture” claims that one human error 75 years ago stoked decades of homophobia and hate. Extremists don’t want you to see it.
The first time the word “homosexual” appeared in the Bible was in 1946. That year, a committee gathered to translate an updated English version of the book from the Greek. Religious scholars, priests, theologists, linguists, anthropologists, and activists have done decades of research and investigation into the instances where the word appears in the book. Their conclusion is that it was a mistranslation.
In other words, the Biblical assertion that homosexuality is a sin—the catalyst for an entire shift in culture, with political repercussions, religious implications, consequences for LGBT rights and acceptance, and, frankly, deadly results—was, they allege, a mistake.
As a new film asserts, it was “the misuse of a single word that changed the course of history.”
1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture is a new documentary directed by Sharon “Rocky” Roggio. Ahead of its premiere this week at the DOC NYC festival, it has, as one might expect, gone viral within the conservative and Christian communities.

Probably need to revise your statement a bit. God doesn't need capitalism to do miracles. Any miracle that occurs in a capitalist (or any other) society is all of God, and in spite of/not in conjunction with the system in place.
This is just beyond absurd - the assertion this was not portrayed as a sin in the Bible nor taught as a sin prior to 1946 - it was something brand new that “shifted culture” after a mistranslation that year. That’s what these people want us to believe. And unfortunately, some will.
1611, I believe, came before 1946:
Romans 1:
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,...
Thou shalt not lie with a man as with a woman. It is an abomination.
Which word was mistranslated?
The word “homosexual” is in the Bible?........that’s news to me. 🤔
adultery and fornication are 100% sins. PERIOD.
sodomy is not only a sin, but one of the first sins mentioned in the bible, thus why we refer to those who commit sodomy as sodomites. because they commit the same sin as those from Sodom.
If a man has sex with a married woman he commits the sin of adultery.
If a married man has sex with an un-married woman he commits the sin of fornification
If a unmarried or married man has sex with another man, he is also guilty of the sin of fornification, but it is labelled sodomy.
Leviticus 20:13 — The New King James Version (NKJV) 13 If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination.
A man that lays with another man shall be put to death.
A man should not take on the dress of a woman.
A woman should not take on the dress of a man.
They are not talking about dresses and pants. They are talking about crossdressing and that is a big no-no (sin) too.
The Scriptures are serious, wasn’t the name Sodom(destroyed)and Sodomite a clue to these deviants?
Our Father is not a Fascist, he will freely allow you to do whatever you want, but there is a cost. Eternity, smoking or non smoking.
Confess and commit to Christ, and turn away from your sin and you can live life eternal. One thing you must know though, PRIDE is a big sin. One more thing, the rainbow is a symbol of Gods forgiveness and it is around the Throne. It is NOT a symbol of sin and preening pride.
I have often thought the success of the US was that we lived far enough from each other that no one cared.
Now, with social media, you’d think the world is staring in your window.
Fixed it.
That means same-sex, and unmarried heterosexual conjugal relations both violate the Adultery Commandment. God can discern which is worse, but both are offensive to God.
Problem is, many Americans will bash the former but tacitly condone the latter.
Doing so is the equivalent of saying we can ignore the 2nd Amendment and ban guns.
Another “correction” of Scripture recently offered is that the sin of the people of Sodom was a lack of “hospitality” toward Lot’s guests.
The 1526 Tyndale translation: “For this cause God gave them up unto shameful lusts. For even their women did change the natural use unto the unnatural. And likewise also the men left the natural use of the woman, and brent in lust one on another among themselves. And man with man wrought filthiness, and received in themselves the reward of their error as it was according.”
Seems clear to me, but that was only 500 years ago...
Sure, and we later got Moab and Ben-Ammi out of the deal. Yuck.
Someone must have written it in the margin?
The word “homosexual” itself was not coined until the late 19th century. My unabridged Oxford English dictionary (1971) only includes it in the supplement, and traces an early reference to that pervert Havelock Ellis in 1897.
Perversion, invert, crime against nature, sodomy, “That sin which shall not be spoken of”, etc. were used instead.
The Catholic Douay-Rheims and the Protestant original King James Version certainly do not use that word, but the intent is clear.
The primary difference between the word homosexual and these other terms is that homosexual usually describes an inclination or predisposition, where as the others focus on the acts, which are intrinsically evil. So, a sodomite is one who performs an act of sodomy. Whether it is as a cruel parody of natural carnal relations or as an act of dominance as in some prisons or Lawrence of Arabia makes less difference. One who WANTS to perform such an act would be as off as someone who WANTS to rob a bank or set a house on fire. The indulgence of such thoughts is wrong and dangerous (cf. Matthew 5:27).
It is also an act of hubris to believe that a modern English Bible translation had any significant affect to make more strict an understanding that is included in those denominations that take the Bible seriously, plus traditional Judaism and Islam (Pakistanis fascination with boys notwithstanding) and even numerous pagan religions. Besides that, English Common Law was well-established in this regard for centuries before 1946.
This reminds me of those sodomy-friendly “theologians” who claim that the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was “inhospitality”.
You don’t need a Bible to figure out homosexuals are destructive. A visit to San Francisco is all you need. They turned the most beautiful city in America into a cesspool.

And I believe that the first chapter of Romans is pretty clear on this subject! NO mistranslation possible!!!!
Leviticus words it as “uncovering nakedness”, when referring to illicit sex with a family member. As far as homosexuality, Lev. 18:22 “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination”. Whether you call it that, or call it homosexuality, it means the same thing.
Not a sin in the Aztec religion.
Not a sin in the Roman or Greek Pantheon.
Not a sin in most African paganism.
All religions are not alike.

I’ve read quite a few stories about popular beliefs in those ancient pagan cultures. While I agree that ancient Greek culture was relatively more accepting of it, Roman culture seems to not be as broadly accepting. As for Mesopotamian and sub-Saharan African...well...I don’t know. Though I’ve never read any Mesopotamian mythology story that was pro-homosexuality between the gods.
