In order to improve real-world firearm accessibility primarily in-vehicle and also 'dismounted,' I seek to acquire a decent quality, maybe even leather, shoulder holster rig for my full frame SIG p220. I also want it to have the 2-mag pouch on the other side for well, extra mags AND to balance the weight of a loaded P220, which is non-trivial. It needs to have the straps that secure the rig to one's belt, as I have tried other holsters without them that just don't work for my heavy SIGs. They do work just fine for my much smaller XDS.
I live in GA and have my weapons carry license, so there is no concern like the 'old days' about printing. Frankly I don't care about other knowing I am armed (if they look carefully.) I will be wearing this while driving and it'll be set up for a right hand draw, even though I am about 55% left-handed otherwise. Outside the vehicle I will wear a covering garment. I am not into open carry unless I am in the woods.
SO, GOT RECOMMENDATIONS?
Has anyone had experience with a fanny pack type of carry case (worn in the front, actually)?
That, I think would be most practical for me.>>> It’s a lot of weight that is not balanced or it’s usually not very tight like a belt holster and can hang down. There might be better ones than the one i have but it definitely conceals.
Interesting!
and I **REALLY** don’t care it it prints. Not gonna open carry, but I am definitely in the ‘get over it, Karen’ camp nowadays.
Thanks.
Also the craft holsters shoulder rig can be disconnected and becomes a belt holster. two screws. It has belt connectors.
The Sig P220 is DA first shot and is holstered as such. Do some research before you come off looking like a jackass.
Oops. Too late.
That’s looks like what I had in mind. Did you secure it with the belt straps?
Glad to encounter a SIG loyalist ;-)
Sorry I hurt your feels, but zero, and I mean ZERO professionals and/or military run with shoulder holsters anymore.
You don’t ever see them in armories or ever see anyone wearing them - unless they want to get laughed at.
For good reason.
Thanks.
Glad you saw my humor in that. I don’t wear a shoulder holster and never have. I did see that Alien Gear has a rig that looks pretty interesting, though. Have you checked them out?
And I am a Texan. :-)
AAABest - I appreciate your thoughts. Please bear in mind I am not military, or LEO.
If the world we live in requires that *I* become ‘tactical’ then we are in in a rough place, for sure. I own other options for both pistols and long guns if I or others in the family need that sort of gear.
REM: I want a convenient option for driving and living in our Condition Yellow-Orange.
About those rear pointed holsters. I would not have exactly what you said, but nearly 20 years ago, I used to go to US Army staff meetings in a sandy country. Being nobody I sat in the back of the room. And stared at the muzzles of a dozen or more 9mm barrels pointed directly at me.* I was very thankful for the 25% who had gotten the downward pointing holsters.
I definitely suggest the down pointing variety if anyone is getting a new shoulder holster.
*From the number of negligent discharges by officers at clearing barrels, it was never safe to assume those sitting at the front had any idea of safe gun handling.
Texas, OK, AR, TN, AL, GA, FL are the ‘southern’ arm of the Patron States of Shooting Stuff.
h/t to Mark Wahlberg in Shooter.
Heh. Not a comfortable perspective, eh?
I bet those were not double action semis.
FYI, to deal with the size of a loaded P220 with an extended mag, a downward holster does make good sense.
Just wow.
There are shoulder holsters that align the barrel facing straight down.
Shoulder holsters may be the safest form of carry for certain situations, particularly for sitting on or in a vehicle.
They may be the only option for concealed carry for some individuals, especially if they're wearing utility belts.
My brusque response wasn’t directed at you or anyone here. I am sorry about that... seriously.
I loathe to advise others on stuff like this. I don’t know how you roll or your body type, but most people today get a little IWB kydex and done.
Holds the weapon nice and easy access. I keep mine in the small of my back. My buddy keeps his up front.
I don’t carry spare mags. Those are in the vehicle.
This is not advice. You gotta go with what works for you.
Did you ever consider that “professionals/Military” have a different mission profile than a cross country truck driver?
Most excellent.
If 411 passes here (likely, imho), I’ll be OCing regularly, and if I really want to be an ass (a certainty) it will be with a shoulder rig.
