Peter McNab, the former NHL player and television color analyst for more than 25 years with the Colorado Avalanche, died on Sunday. He was 70.
McNab, who was the color analyst for the Avalanche since their inception in 1995, was diagnosed with cancer last year.
Peter McNab had a 14-year career that saw him finish with 363 goals and 818 points over 954 games with the Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils.

Peter McNab
He was a good player when the Bruins ruled the Adams Division.
I saw a lot of Bruins games during the 1970s, and thus a lot of Peter McNab scoring goals. Hard to believe he was 70. Time flies.
I was a Kings fan, but watched some Bruins as I lived in Connecticut and cable carried WSBK-TV38 featuring Dana Hershey. Don Cherry was the stone faced Bruins coach, Gary Cheevers was solid in goal (but not as good as the Kings’ Rogie Vachon). Mark Messier was also very good.
The B’s really had a solid team — McNab,Middleton,O’Reilly,Park,Ratelle,Cheevers,Gilbert.....but were unlucky to be in the same era of Montreal’s last great dynasty....followed by the Islanders and then Gretzky’s Oilers.
I imagine he will be forever remembered for his involvement in that epic brawl in Madison Square Garden when he and some other Bruins players climbed into the stands to administer a collective beatdown to a bunch of unruly Rangers fans. LOL.
Loved all those dynasties. Especially the Islanders.
Played hockey for years. Great sport. Great fun.🤘
They lived to be 95 and 90 respectively, both having served in WW2.
One of my favorite memories of Peter McNab was when he went 8 rows up into the stands in Madison Square Garden (with the rest of the Bruins), AT THE END OF THE GAME, to attack fans in a wild melee that you won't see in the NHL today. This was December 1979 and I saw it live on TV.
The Bruins players all ended up getting $500 fines, except for Gerry Cheevers, who was in the locker room already on his second beer.
Hockey was wild in those days.
Six minute video here, with the Bruins theme music at the beginning and end.
The funniest thing was each of the players got $500 fines, which is pretty much what it costs to go see a game these days, except for goalie Gerry Cheevers who rushed into the locker room to start drinking beer.
Prayers to his family. Rest in Peace, Mr. McNab!
late 70s into the 80s. McNab, O’Reilly, Milbury, Cheevers... awesome games.
i grew up listening to the bruins on WBZ after being told to go to bed.
I’d hear my Dad downstairs cheering them on while trying to stay quiet upstairs
I heard Pete tell the story of his first NHL game. They put him down at the end of the bench and kind of stopped looking down there. He wasn’t paying attention and a puck came and wacked him in the head and went back out on the ice. Noone saw him get hit. Then the guys on the bench were like, “Where’s Pete? Oh, there he is down under the bench.”
I had swaon tickets fir the Devils 86-87. When McNab came out on the Ice the regulars would scream in a really angry voice “MC-NAAAAAB!”
Rest in peace Pete.
